Kings' celebration continues in nearby beach towns

Five days after the Los Angeles Kings won the Stanley Cup for the second time in three seasons, they continued celebrating Wednesday with their fans in beach towns surrounding the city.

Thousands gathered in the streets of Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach and Redondo Beach to cheer on the Kings, who defeated the New York Rangers in five games in the Stanley Cup Final, which culminated with Alec Martinez's double-overtime goal Friday at Staples Center.

"It was really important for us to bring the Stanley Cup down here to the South Bay because we feel like we're part of the community," forward Justin Williams told the Los Angeles Daily News. "This certainly makes us feel welcome."

According to The Daily Breeze (Torrance, Calif.), several Kings live in Hermosa Beach, including defenseman Drew Doughty and forwards Dustin Brown, Jarret Stoll and Jeff Carter. Williams, goaltender Jonathan Quick, and forwards Anze Kopitar and Trevor Lewis live in Manhattan Beach.

"The guys on the Kings are local guys, so they're always willing to stop and chat and shake a hand," Hermosa Beach resident Mary Lou O'Brien told the Los Angeles Times.

The Daily Breeze reported the Kings and the Cup first visited the Redondo Beach police station. The four-mile parade, which lasted 90 minutes, wrapped up in Manhattan Beach.

"They're part of our hometown community and we are proud and honored that they choose to live here and share their success with us," Hermosa Beach Mayor Michael DiVirgilio told the Times.

The Kings held a parade and rally in Los Angeles on Monday and visited Dodger Stadium on Tuesday.
