Shaw out, Bollig suspended for Hawks in Game 5

CHICAGO -- The Chicago Blackhawks will again be without forward Andrew Shaw when they play Game 5 of the Western Conference Second Round against the Minnesota Wild on Sunday at United Center (9 p.m. ET; CNBC, TSN, RDS).

Shaw, out since suffering a lower-body injury in Game 1, is unable to return, coach Joel Quenneville said Saturday. He said Shaw is progressing slightly, but, as of Friday, had yet to resume skating.

"[He’s] felt better the last couple of days, [an] encouraging sign," Quenneville said, "but I wouldn’t expect him [Sunday]."

Chicago has lost two straight games, putting the best-of-7 Stanley Cup Playoff series at 2-2.

Though the Blackhawks have missed Shaw, especially when it comes to net-front presence, Quenneville said they should be deep enough to deal with his absence.

"It’s an opportunity for other guys to get his quality ice time," the coach said. "Shaw’s got a presence about him that he brings an intangible to your team that you appreciate, but certainly other guys have got to bring a little bit of what he possesses."

The Blackhawks also will be without fourth-line forward Brandon Bollig, who was suspended for two games by the NHL Department of Player Safety for boarding Wild defenseman Keith Ballard in the second period of Minnesota’s 4-2 victory in Game 4 on Friday at Xcel Energy Center.

Forward Kris Versteeg likely will re-enter the lineup after being scratched twice in this series, including Game 4.

"We need [Versteeg]," Quenneville said. "[He] gives us some skill. With the pace, that’s what we’re looking for, for him to bring some speed and some quickness and directness to his game that can help us."
