NEWARK, N.J. -- New Jersey Devils captain Bryce Salvador was scratched from the game Thursday against the Phoenix Coyotes with a lower-body injury. Salvador reportedly has been bothered by a groin injury and skipped practice Tuesday, but at the time the Devils said he was resting.

Rookie defenseman Eric Gelinas, who was used as a forward in New Jersey's previous game, Sunday against the Toronto Maple Leafs, returned to that position.

Salvador is missing his 33rd game of the season. He missed 30 in a row from Oct. 24 to Dec. 27 with a non-displaced stress fracture in his foot. He missed two straight (March 1-2) with a bruised collarbone.
