The Montreal Canadiens have placed goaltender Carey Price on injured reserve, the team confirmed Monday.

Price, who is out with a lower-body injury, is with the Canadiens for their four-game road trip, which begins Monday night against the Los Angeles Kings. He can be activated off IR as early as Tuesday.

"Carey is still day-to-day," coach Michel Therrien told the Canadiens website. "As soon as the medical staff feels he's ready to start practicing, he's going to go on the ice, but obviously he was not today. He's just doing treatment now."

With Price out, Peter Budaj will receive his fourth straight start at Staples Center. He will be backed up by Dustin Tokarski, who was recalled from the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League.

Montreal has earned five of a possible six points in Price's absence.
