Brodeur seeks ice time; Wild reportedly interested

New Jersey Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur said Saturday if he were to accept a trade it would not have to be either to a Stanley Cup contender or for a starting job.

"Not necessarily. If I would agree for it, it would just be to get more ice time," Brodeur told MSG Network after defeating the New York Islanders 6-1 in his first game since Jan. 26.

"I feel really good. I think that kind of helped me out to see the way I was playing, how in control I was today. I've still got a lot left in me, and if I need to play somewhere else next year I need to make some decisions."

Cory Schneider has emerged as the Devils No. 1 goalie, leaving Brodeur to ponder leaving the team for which he has played all of his 1,249 NHL games.

The 41-year-old has a no-trade clause, and he has not revealed if he has asked to be moved, or if general manager Lou Lamoriello has approached him to do so.

Two sources sold Tom Gulitti of NorthJersey.com that the Minnesota Wild have contacted Lamoriello about acquiring Brodeur as insurance for and possibly an alternative to rookie goalie Darcy Kuemper.

Gulitti said the Wild reportedly are also interested in Jaroslav Halak, who was traded to the Buffalo Sabres on Friday in the deal that sent Ryan Miller to the St. Louis Blues.

Brodeur is 14-11-4 with a 2.47 goals-against average and .900 save percentage. He has played in four games since Jan. 7.

The NHL Trade Deadline is Wednesday at 3 p.m. ET.

"It definitely depends where it would be if I do accept it, and I'm not there yet," Brodeur said. "I know we're running out of time a little bit, but I'm taking my time on this."
