New Jersey Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur won't be starting as expected in the team's preseason finale Thursday night against the Philadelphia Flyers, as reports circulated Thursday afternoon that his father Denis died at age 82.

Brodeur left the team to fly to Montreal before learning of his father's death.

Cory Schneider, who has allowed just one goal in three preseason appearances, will instead get the start. Keith Kinkaid will serve as his backup.
