Stars' Daley could miss start of season

Dallas Stars coach Lindy Ruff revealed after Tuesday's team practice that veteran defenseman Trevor Daley remains out with an upper-body injury and is not likely to be in the team's lineup for their opening-night contest Oct. 3 against the Florida Panthers.

"It looks like Trevor will miss a little bit of time with upper body," Ruff said. "I don't think he'll be able to start the season, but it won't be a long time."

Daley suffered the injury during Dallas' 4-1 win Saturday over the Panthers in San Antonio, TX. Since playing his first full season with the Stars in 2005-06, Daley has only missed 28 games over eight seasons. That consistency has made him a big part of the team's blue line. Dallas' second-round pick (No. 43) in 2002, Daley recorded four goals and 13 points in 44 games last season.

"We're going to have to be ready to deal with injuries to key personnel," Ruff said. "We're going to have some guys that maybe weren't going to be in the lineup have to be ready to play."

That group could include 20-year-old defenseman Jamie Oleksiak. The 6-foot-7 blueliner is looking to crack Dallas' everyday lineup and Ruff was particularly pleased with his play of late.
