Sweden rolls to 4-0 lead vs. U.S. after 2 periods

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -- The second period saw the United States continue to commit penalties, and Sweden continue to take advantage of it.

Sweden scored three times in the second, including a pair of power-play goals, to take a 4-0 lead after two periods.

With Stefan Matteau in the box for roughing, Andre Burakovsky scored at 4:19 on a bit of a lucky bounce. Quentin Shore blocked Jacob de la Rose's shot from the top of the left circle but the puck ricocheted to Burakovsky, who was standing alone on the right post and tapped it in to make it 2-0.

A high-sticking double minor on Steven Santini led to Sweden's third goal. Eleven seconds after Santini went to the box, Gustav Possler drove to the U.S. net an banged in a loose puck at the side of the net at 8:42.

Thatcher Demko replaced Jon Gillies in net midway through the period, but he didn't have much luck or support. Lucas Wallmark made it 4-0 when he scored off a Burakovsky pass at 12:36.

In three games, eight of Sweden's 12 goals have come on the power play.

Things might have gotten worse for the United States at the end of the period as top-line right wing Riley Barber had to leave the ice in the final minute after being hit in the right ear by a puck.
