LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -- After one period in the first exhibition game at the USA Hockey National Junior Evaluation camp, USA White and Sweden are tied 1-1.
USA White's Matthew Grzelcyk, a Boston Bruins prospect, opened the scoring 3:28 into the game with a power-play goal set up by Michael Brodzinski.
Just more than two minutes later, a penalty on USA White let Sweden tie the game on a power-play goal by Andre Burakovsky, the Washington Capitals' first pick at the 2013 NHL Draft.
USA White goalie Jon Gillies and the team's penalty killers did yeoman's work to keep the game tied in the second half of the period as the Americans were whistled for three minor penalties in a 4:55 span, two of them on forward J.T. Compher.
