The Washington Capitals have placed defenseman Mike Green on injured reserve with a groin injury that continues to keep him out of the lineup.

Green missed three games because of the injury in mid-February before returning for games on back-to-back nights. He aggravated the injury and will miss his fifth contest in seven games when the Capitals play the Boston Bruins on Tuesday at Verizon Center.

The Capitals signed defenseman Stephen Oleksy to an NHL contract Monday and recalled him from Hershey of the American Hockey League. Oleksy leads the Bears with 151 penalty minutes, and the 27-year-old never has played in the NHL.

Darren Dreger of TSN also reported Washington placed defenseman Roman Hamrlik on waivers Tuesday. Hamrlik, signed to a two-year, $7 million contract before last season, quickly fell out of favor with the Capitals' new coaching staff and has played four games this season.
