Rick Nash will not play for the New York Rangers against the Montreal Canadiens, the team announced Tuesday afternoon.

Nash was a question mark for the team's game Sunday against the Washington Capitals because he was "banged up," according to coach John Tortorella. He played against the Capitals, but will not skate against the Canadiens.

Tortorella wouldn’t specify what was ailing Nash when the coach addressed the media Tuesday at Madison Square Garden, only saying, "Well, he’s a really good player and he gives other people opportunities."

Rookie Chris Kreider is expected to return to the lineup in place of Nash, who was the team's marquee offseason addition. Nash has three goals and 12 points in 14 games for the Rangers.
