Red Wings' Datsyuk says shoulder 'not ready'

Detroit Red Wings forward Pavel Datsyuk practiced with teammates for the second straight day but said his injured shoulder is not healed enough for game action.

"I feel good to be with the team, skate and I try to keep the pace but it's still not ready," Datsyuk told the Red Wings website. "It still bothers me."

Datsyuk sustained a separated right shoulder in the Red Wings' preseason opener Sept. 22 against the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Red Wings said the injury was expected to keep Datsyuk out for about four weeks.

MLive.com reported Datsyuk wouldn't close the door on being available for the Red Wings' opener Oct. 9 against the Boston Bruins. But the Red Wings website said "he will sit out his first season opener in his NHL career."

On Friday, the Red Wings announced Datsyuk was placed on seven-day injured reserve retroactive to Sept. 22.

Datsyuk skated wearing a gray, non-contact jersey Friday. According to MLive.com, Datsyuk did some passing and shooting but did not participate in all the drills.

Datsyuk said he's happy the injury has allowed him to continue skating so his conditioning wouldn't lag.

"More comfortable keeping it at the same pace," he said. "That's good for me. Maybe I can't shoot too much but I can skate."
