Sabres forwards Kaleta, Larsson to miss time

Buffalo Sabres forwards Patrick Kaleta and Johan Larsson "will be out for a little while," coach Ted Nolan said Tuesday.

Nolan said Kaleta, who is coming back from a knee injury, is likely to be out a month and Larsson for about 10 days.

"Kaleta's is not as serious as we thought, but it's still serious," Nolan said. "Instead of maybe a three-month thing it could be down to less than a month type of thing. We're very thankful for that."

Each player left a 3-2 shootout loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Sunday. Kaleta was hit in the head by a Morgan Rielly slap shot in the first period and Larsson took an elbow to the head later in the game.

Nolan said he expects top pick Sam Reinhart to play in each of the remaining preseason games, Wednesday against the Washington Capitals and Friday against the Carolina Hurricanes.

Reinhart, the No. 2 pick in the 2014 NHL Draft, is bidding to make the opening-night roster as an 18-year-old. He has averaged 33 goals over the past three seasons for the Kootenay Ice of the Western Hockey League but is hoping to avoid being sent back there for another season.

"No question, it would be disappointing," Reinhart said. "If that does happen I'll do everything I can to take that as a positive and I'll go dominate junior one more year."
