Forward Kevin Hayes, bidding to make the New York Rangers roster after signing as a free agent this summer, practiced at wing on Sunday, but he could find himself seeing more time at center as the result of injuries to veterans Matthew Lombardi and Ryan Malone.
"Being a versatile player can never hurt you," Hayes, who played plenty of wing at Boston College, where he spent the past four seasons, said according to the Rangers website. "Whether you're playing center or wing, you still go out there, try your hardest, try and show the coaches what I can bring to this team. Whether it's going to be on right wing, that's the case."
