Penguins forward Bennett to miss six weeks

Pittsburgh Penguins forward Beau Bennett will be sidelined six weeks with a lower-body injury.

"It was just one of those unfortunate things and that’s our timeline with him," coach Mike Johnston told the Penguins website.

"When he left the ice, he was thinking, 'Oh no, here I go again, another injury.' Really, you look at the injuries that he’s had and it's not like he (can) battle through things. There's certain injuries that are unavoidable, and that one there, he got clipped in practice and went down awkwardly."

Bennett had to be helped off the ice at practice Friday morning. The injury appeared to be to his knee or leg, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, which reported he was injured during a 3-on-3 scrimmage in the neutral zone. Johnston said Friday the skate of Kasperi Kapanen clipped Bennett on the heel.

Bennett missed a significant amount of time last season with a wrist injury that required surgery. He had three goals and seven points in 21 regular-season games, and one goal and five points in 12 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
