Ehlers, Lowry get chance on Jets' top lines: report

Injured forwards Dustin Byfuglien and Evander Kane will miss the Winnipeg Jets' preseason game Saturday, giving prospects Nikolaj Ehlers and Adam Lowry a chance on the top lines against the Minnesota Wild.

Ehlers will skate with Andrew Ladd and Bryan Little, and Lowry with Mark Scheifele and Blake Wheeler, the Winnipeg Free Press reported Friday.

"This was Byfuglien's not going, Kane's not going, they deserve an opportunity to play there with people they might play in the National Hockey League with," coach Paul Maurice said, according to the newspaper. "I'm looking forward to it. I've enjoyed their play. Nik and Adam… I like what they do out there."

Ehlers said he was looking forward to it too.

"I must say I got a little smile on my face when I saw [the line combinations]," Ehlers told the Winnipeg Sun. "It's pretty cool that [the coaches are] trusting me and giving me the chance to show what I can do."

Byfuglien and Kane have injuries described as minor and are considered day-to-day.
