"I said when I got drafted that I can score 50 [goals] and I know I can score 50," Kane said Friday, according to the Winnipeg Sun. "Playing with the right guys and playing with those guys consistently, and obviously staying healthy is a big part of it too. … The sky is the limit."
The No. 4 pick in the 2009 NHL Draft took part in a session with reporters that the Sun described as mostly playful. Asked if he thought he would score 50 goals this season, Kane said, "We'll see what happens. I have to have a good start."
Kane had a good start last season, with five goals in nine games, then scored 14 in his next 54 to finish with 19. In five NHL seasons, he has one 30-goal season, with the others in the teens.
The report said Kane is likely to play with Blake Wheeler and Mark Scheifele to start 2014-15 under coach Paul Maurice.
"I've played with those guys before and I'm looking forward to continuing to build with them through camp and having a good season with them," Kane told reporter Ken Wiebe. "It's something we talked about in the summer a little bit, my desire to play with a guy consistently through the year, whether things are going good or things are going bad, to stick with it. I think we'll be given an opportunity and I'm looking forward to it."
Kane, 23, also said he's looking forward to remaining with the Jets.
"I'm happy to be a Winnipeg Jet right now," he said. "I'm looking forward to camp and looking forward to having a good start to the season; all things I've said before."
