TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. -- The Detroit Red Wings have won six Presidents' Trophies and 11 Stanley Cup titles in their storied history, but never before has the organization fielded the best team of prospects at its traditional Traverse City Tournament here at Center ICE Arena.

That missing piece was realized Monday before a capacity crowd when left wing Anthony Mantha, a 2013 first-round pick (No. 20), connected for two goals and one assist, and goalie Jared Coreau, a free-agent signee from Northern Michigan University, made 23 saves to lead the Red Wings' prospects to a 4-2 victory against the defending champion Buffalo Sabres in the 15th annual Traverse City championship game.

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. -- Dallas Stars prospect Jack Campbell, a 2010 first-round pick (No. 11), made 24 saves and forward Alex Chiasson, a 2009 second-round choice (No. 38), scored two goals to lead their team to a 7-1 victory against the Columbus Blue Jackets in the third-place game of the Traverse City Prospects Tournament on Monday at Center ICE Arena.

Campbell, who struggled at this tournament in his previous two appearances, proved to be solid this year. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound goalie won both starts and sported a 1.50 goals-against average and .938 save percentage for the Stars.

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. -- Ryan Tesink connected for the hat trick and Sebastian Wannstrom scored twice as the St. Louis Blues earned an 8-3 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday in the fifth-place game of the Traverse City Prospects Tournament at Center ICE Arena.

The Hurricanes opened up a 3-0 lead on goals by Brent Pedersen (2013, No. 126), Brody Sutter (2011, No. 193) and Sergey Tolchinsky (free agent signee) in the second period before the Blues erupted for eight straight.

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. -- Jesper Fast and Andrew Yogan each scored a pair of goals and Danny Kristo had a goal and an assist when the New York Rangers beat the Minnesota Wild 5-2 in the seventh-place game of the Traverse City Tournament on Monday at Center Ice Arena.

Forwards Carter Sandlak and Miles Koules, both of whom are at camp on tryouts, scored first-period goals in the opening 5:25 to give Minnesota a 2-0 lead before the Rangers scored five unanswered goals. Fast, a 2010 sixth-round pick (No. 157), converted back-to-back feeds from Oscar Lindberg (2010, No. 57) in a span of 14 seconds to pull the Rangers into a 2-2 tie, before Kristo (2008, No. 56) gave the Blueshirts their first lead at 16:36 of the second.

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. -- Zach Nastasiuk, a 2013 second-round pick (No. 48), had a goal and one assist and goalie Jake Paterson, a 2012 third-round choice (No. 80), made 22 saves to lead the Detroit Red Wings to a 4-1 victory over the St. Louis Blues on the final day of round-robin action on Sunday in the Traverse City Prospects Tournament.

The Red Wings (3-0-0) will now face the defending tournament champion Buffalo Sabres (3-0-0) in the tournament final on Monday here at Center ICE Arena (7:30 p.m. ET). The host Red Wings have never celebrated a tournament title.

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. -- Forward Oliver Bjorkstrand, a 2013 third-round pick (No. 89), had a goal and an assist and goalie Oscar Dansk turned aside 21 shots to lead the Columbus Blue Jackets to a 4-2 victory against the New York Rangers during round-robin action Sunday at the Traverse City Prospects Tournament.

Dansk, a 2012 second-round pick (No. 31), earned his first victory of the tournament for the Blue Jackets (2-1-0). Defenseman Ryan Murray (2012, No. 2) scored his second goal of the tournament and center Boone Jenner (2011, No. 37) chipped in with two assists. The Kerby Rychel (2013, No. 19)-Jenner-Bjorkstrand line combined for one goal and three assists.

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. -- Dallas Stars prospect Alex Chiasson, a 2009 second-round pick (No. 38), scored the only goal in a shootout to lead his team to a 2-1 victory against the Minnesota Wild on the third day of round-robin action at the Traverse City Prospects Tournament on Sunday at Center ICE Arena.

Dallas goalie Maxime Lagace (free agent signee), who made 27 saves in regulation/overtime, denied Oliver Archambault (2011, No. 108), Mathew Dumba (2012, No. 7) and Zack Phillips (2011, No. 28) in the tie-breaker to secure the victory. After playing four skaters aside for five minutes, the teams then played an exciting three skaters aside for five minutes to the delight of the fans in attendance.

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. -- Nicholas Baptiste and Zemgus Girgensons each had a goal and two assists to lead the Buffalo Sabres' prospects to a 7-4 victory against the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday during the third day of round-robin action at the Traverse City Prospects Tournament.

The Sabres (3-0-0), the defending tournament champion, now advance to the championship against the host Detroit Red Wings on Monday at Center ICE Arena (7:30 p.m. ET).

Despite the loss, the Hurricanes brass received their first good look at 2013 first-round pick (No. 5) Elias Lindholm, who shook off some early rust before settling in nicely. Lindholm hasn't played in a competitive hockey game since last March. He sustained a shoulder injury in July during Carolina's rookie camp and had been limited to practices.

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. -- Elias Lindholm, a 2013 first-round pick of the Carolina Hurricanes, will be in the lineup on Sunday when the team plays the unbeaten Buffalo Sabres on the third day of round-robin action in the Traverse City Prospects Tournament.

Lindholm, selected fifth in June at Prudential Center, had been limited to practice sessions since sustaining a shoulder injury during Carolina's development camp in July at PNC Arena in Raleigh, N.C. He sat out games in Traverse City against the New York Rangers on Thursday and Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday. The Hurricanes enter the game with a 1-1-0 mark, while the Sabres stand 2-0-0.

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. -- One of the biggest surprises at the Traverse City Prospects Tournament this week has been the play of undrafted right wing Sergey Tolchinksky of the Carolina Hurricanes.

Despite his 5-8, 165-pound frame, the native of Moscow, Russia, has showcased plenty of speed and generated several chances. Tolchinsky played for the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in the Ontario Hockey League in 2012-13, finishing with 26 goals and 51 points in 62 regular-season games as a rookie.

He was ranked No. 118 on NHL Central Scouting's final list of the top draft-eligible North American skaters, but never did hear his name or receive a call. That day has motivated him to do whatever it takes to prove everyone wrong and he's doing just that.
