Rangers beat Wild in seventh-place game

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. -- Jesper Fast and Andrew Yogan each scored a pair of goals and Danny Kristo had a goal and an assist when the New York Rangers beat the Minnesota Wild 5-2 in the seventh-place game of the Traverse City Tournament on Monday at Center Ice Arena.

Forwards Carter Sandlak and Miles Koules, both of whom are at camp on tryouts, scored first-period goals in the opening 5:25 to give Minnesota a 2-0 lead before the Rangers scored five unanswered goals. Fast, a 2010 sixth-round pick (No. 157), converted back-to-back feeds from Oscar Lindberg (2010, No. 57) in a span of 14 seconds to pull the Rangers into a 2-2 tie, before Kristo (2008, No. 56) gave the Blueshirts their first lead at 16:36 of the second.

Yogan (2010, No. 100) closed out the scoring in the third with two goals, including an empty-netter with 46 seconds remaining in regulation.

Rangers goalie Jeff Malcolm, another player in camp on a tryout, made 15 saves to earn his first victory of the tournament in two starts.

Quote of the Day

I'm just excited about the opportunity. I've been on the ice earlier than usual and in the weight room, pushing around a little more weights than usual. Every day I go into a workout with a smile on my face and ready to go. When you do have a little more responsibility, you want to take your lunch pail and get ready to work.
