VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- The Calgary Flames are a lot better equipped to handle a recent run of injuries to key players than they would have been when they visited the Vancouver Canucks two-and-a-half weeks ago.

Back then, everyone was still trying to figure out where to go in the new system installed by new coach Bob Hartley.

Now the incumbents can at least tell the new guys where to go.

"Now there are 17 guys that know the system, and we bring in new guys and they can just follow the lead and other guys will be able to even tell them on the ice, 'Hey, this is where you are supposed to be,'" veteran Alex Tanguay said. "A couple weeks ago we had a couple guys on each line that didn’t know where they should be."

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- The Sharks activated defenseman defenseman Brent Burns from injured reserve, and he'll make his season debut Saturday against the Phoenix Coyotes. Burns underwent hernia surgery in May, suffered an apparent setback during his recovery and was placed on injured reserve on Jan. 23.

To clear a roster spot for Burns, the Sharks sent defenseman Matt Irwin to Worcester of the American Hockey League. Irwin appeared in nine games, posting two points with one goal and one assist. He scored his first NHL goal against the Colorado Avalanche on Jan. 26.

Sharks defenseman Douglas Murray is a scratch for the game.

According to TSN's Bob McKenzie, the Sharks also placed defenseman Nick Petrecki on waivers today.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- Vancouver Canucks goaltender Cory Schneider will get a chance to build a little momentum Saturday night when he makes his second-straight start playing host to the Calgary Flames.

Schneider, who came into the season as the new No. 1 after taking over from Roberto Luongo early in the 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs, watched Luongo start – and excel in – four straight games before making 22 saves Thursday in a 4-1 win at the Minnesota Wild.

"I've always liked to get in a rhythm and tonight is another opportunity to do that," said Schneider, who went 10 days between starts. "I don't change anything regardless of who I am playing, or how long it's been, it all stays the same. I think that's part of staying consistent is doing the same things over and over again that give you success. If you get out of those patterns you see differences in your game."

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- In an effort to snap a three-game losing skid, the Minnesota Wild have made a couple of adjustments to their lineup prior to their game against the Nashville Predators.

Rookie center Mikael Granlund will be reassuming his role as the team's second line center between Dany Heatley and Devin Setoguchi, two wings who have combined for 456 NHL goals.

Matt Cullen will be shuffled back to left wing, this time on the team's third line.

ST. LOUIS -- The St. Louis Blues' 6-1-0 start seems like a distant memory.

So in order for the Blues (6-4-0) to break a three-game losing streak Saturday against the Anaheim Ducks (7-2-1), coach Ken Hitchcock will try and spice things up by juggling his lineup.

"The twosomes [on defense] aren't changing, but just looking at trying to add," Hitchcock said. "I think we've gone pretty close to three games without scoring 5-on-5. Our power play's been terrific all year, but if you don't score 5-on-5, you're not gonna win a lot of hockey games."

OTTAWA – Friday, Winnipeg Jets coach Claude Noel said Ondrej Pavelec was battling flu-like symptoms but wouldn’t confirm Al Montoya as the starting goaltender. If Pavelec is still ill, look for Montoya to make his third start of the season Saturday against the Ottawa Senators. The Jets' backup goaltender sports a 4.33 goals-against average and .806 save percentage.

PHILADELPHIA -- Wayne Simmonds was on the ice for pregame warm-ups and will return to the lineup for the Philadelphia Flyers' game Saturday against the Carolina Hurricanes after missing the previous three with a concussion sustained Feb. 1 when he was elbowed in the face by the Washington Capitals' John Erskine.

ARLINGTON, Va. – Marcus Johansson is expected to be a healthy scratch Saturday night for the third time this season when the Washington Capitals play host to the Florida Panthers at Verizon Center.

The Capitals’ first-round selection in the 2009 NHL Draft (No. 24) has one goal and a team-worst minus-7 rating in nine games this season.

“I think his confidence might be one of the problems with his play,” said Capitals coach Adam Oates, who had high hopes for Johansson heading into the season.

Johansson spent the entire six-day training camp on Washington’s No. 1 line and began the season playing with Nicklas Backstrom and Alex Ovechkin.

Tyler Myers is expected to be a healthy scratch Saturday for the Buffalo Sabres when they face the New York Islanders, John Vogl of the Buffalo News reports.

Myers was Buffalo's first-round pick (No. 12) in the 2008 NHL Draft and won the Calder Trophy in 2009-10. He has one goal, no assists and a minus-9 rating through the team's first 11 games. The Sabres have lost seven of nine games since starting the season 2-0.

Buffalo signed Myers to a seven-year, $38.5 million contract extension that began this season. The deal included a $10 million signing bonus and a $12 million salary (now pro-rated) for the 2012-13 campaign.

"I'm embarrassed, and I should be," Myers said to Vogl. "Two years in a row now. It doesn't feel very good, but silver lining, I responded the way I needed to last time, and this is what I have to do this time."
