Sharks' Burns activated, set for season debut

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- The Sharks activated defenseman defenseman Brent Burns from injured reserve, and he'll make his season debut Saturday against the Phoenix Coyotes. Burns underwent hernia surgery in May, suffered an apparent setback during his recovery and was placed on injured reserve on Jan. 23.

To clear a roster spot for Burns, the Sharks sent defenseman Matt Irwin to Worcester of the American Hockey League. Irwin appeared in nine games, posting two points with one goal and one assist. He scored his first NHL goal against the Colorado Avalanche on Jan. 26.

Sharks defenseman Douglas Murray is a scratch for the game.

According to TSN's Bob McKenzie, the Sharks also placed defenseman Nick Petrecki on waivers today.
