Lightning must 'rise to the occasion,' Cooper says

CHICAGO -- Jon Cooper has not been in the NHL for long, but he's already earned a reputation for being one of the most forthcoming coaches in the League.

The Tampa Bay Lightning are facing elimination in Game 6 of the 2015 Stanley Cup Final against the Chicago Blackhawks, and Cooper was asked if it is possible for his team to approach it like any other game, a standard sports cliché when someone faces a high-leverage situation.

"No chance. The Stanley Cup's in the building," Cooper said. "We know it's just not another game. We haven't treated those elimination games like that. This is much different than Game 1. You got to win or you go home. On the other side, you know what happens if they win.

Blackhawks' new lines hoping to build on success

TAMPA — Chicago Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said he does not expect to make any lineup changes for Game 5 of the 2015 Stanley Cup Final on Saturday against the Tampa Bay Lightning (8 p.m. ET; NBC, CBC, TVA Sports).

Quenneville shuffled his lines for Game 4 and inserted defenseman Kimmo Timonen for Kyle Cumiskey. The Blackhawks won 2-1 to even the best-of-7 series at 2-2.

Tampa Bay coach Jon Cooper has been coy about his goaltender since Ben Bishop left Game 2 with an undisclosed injury, and Quenneville went with his own subterfuge at the start of Game 4.

The Blackhawks did not show the lines they ended up using in the game during the pregame warmup, and even during the game Quenneville quickly switched the bottom three lines around before settling on the four lines that are expected to begin Game 5 together.

Blackhawks remember Reif, Montador on eve of Final

TAMPA -- Joel Quenneville sat at the podium for his 2015 Stanley Cup Final Media Day press conference adorned in his typical Chicago Blackhawks track suit.

The initials embroidered on his jacket were a reminder that this season has been anything but typical for the Blackhawks.

Quenneville's jacket says "CR" to honor Clint Reif, an assistant equipment manager who died in December. Many of the Blackhawks were stunned again in February when former teammate Steve Montador, who played for Chicago in 2011-12, died.

"It's tough," defenseman Brent Seabrook said. "As tough as the season is, going through situations and things like that, it's tough. We miss them and yeah … I don't really know what to say other than that. It's just tough."

Maroon has found a home on Ducks' top line

CHICAGO -- Third forward on the Anaheim Ducks' top line should be one of the most coveted roles in the NHL.

Playing with Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry almost guarantees a player the chance to rack up scoring chances. The Ducks have used a rotating group of players in that role since coach Bruce Boudreau arrived, but Patrick Maroon has locked down the job during the 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

"It's tough playing with those guys," Maroon said. "When guys get up there, they get that nervousness about playing with two of the best players in the League. Sometimes people think it is all easy and fun. It's a hard spot to fill, because first off you're playing with the two best players and you've got to work hard. You've got to find a way to get chemistry with those two. I think we're starting to feel it a little bit here in the playoffs, so we just have to continue to do that."

Getzlaf keeps piling up assists for Ducks

CHICAGO -- Anaheim Ducks center Ryan Getzlaf tied his own franchise record for assists in a single postseason on Thursday. Not for a game, but for an entire Stanley Cup Playoff.

Getzlaf had two assists in Anaheim's 3-2 victory against the Chicago Blackhawks in Game 3 of the 2015 Western Conference Final, and now has 14, the same number he had in 2009.

"I'm doing the opposite of scoring," Getzlaf said. "No, guys are just making plays around me. Part of my makeup and my job is to try and get guys pucks in situations that they can do things with, and I play with some pretty good players."

Getzlaf's 14 assists are five more than any other player in the 2015 playoffs. He's done it just 12 games, which is four fewer than anyone on the Tampa Bay Lightning has played and three fewer than the New York Rangers.

Ducks not changing offensive approach in Game 3

CHICAGO -- The perception in hockey is that the team on the losing end of a marathon playoff game like the one the Anaheim Ducks and Chicago Blackhawks played Tuesday, a 3-2 triple-overtime victory by the Blackhawks in Game 2 of the 2015 Western Conference Final, ends up feeling the physical and emotional toll more than the winning team.

The Ducks hope that isn't the case. Anaheim will try to reclaim home-ice advantage in Game 3 on Thursday (8 p.m., NBCSN, CBC, TVA Sports). The best-of-7 series is tied 1-1.

"We know that we played well," Ducks defenseman Hampus Lindholm said Thursday. "If we keep doing what we are doing I think it is going to be a fun series."

Ducks know momentum is fleeting entering Game 2

ANAHEIM -- The Anaheim Ducks have a 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 Western Conference Final and are 9-1 in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but the idea of game-to-game momentum was not a rallying cry Tuesday.

"You start over every game in the playoffs," Ducks defenseman Francois Beauchemin said. "You can't think about what happened last game for very long. You have to refocus."

Anaheim defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 4-1 in Game 1 with depth scorers and goaltender Frederik Andersen leading the way. Game 2 is Tuesday at Honda Center (9 p.m. ET; NBCSN, CBC, TVA Sports).

Center Ryan Kesler did not skate during practice Monday but was on the ice Tuesday. Everyone skated for the Ducks except Beauchemin and captain Ryan Getzlaf. The Blackhawks did not hold a morning skate.

Flames sure they can end losing streak in Anaheim

ANAHEIM -- The Calgary Flames haven't won a game at Honda Center in more than nine years. Each of the 21 regular-season and Stanley Cup Playoff games here against the Anaheim Ducks since April 25, 2006 have gone the wrong way for the Flames.

The task for the Flames on Sunday in Game 5 of their Western Conference Second Round series against the Ducks (10 p.m. ET; NBCSN, CBC, TVA Sports) is pretty simple. Either the Flames beat the Ducks and snap their losing streak in Orange County, or their 2014-15 season is over; the Ducks lead the best-of-7 series 3-1.

"Elvis is dead, the Beatles have split and life goes on," Calgary coach Bob Hartley said Sunday. "If we didn't believe we could win we would have stayed home. That's one thing. I won't coach a game in this League that I don't believe our team or our organization can't win. I will stay home.

"We can't win three games tonight. We just used a simple word in our team meeting. It is just win. We can only go back to Calgary and force a Game 6 by winning tonight, so that's all that is on our plate." Game 6, if needed, would be Tuesday in Calgary.

Ducks aim to finish Flames, erase postseason failures

ANAHEIM -- The Anaheim Ducks have won seven games in the 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs, equaling their win total from the 2014 playoffs.

Anaheim will have its first chance to secure win No. 8 and advance to the Western Conference Final when it faces the Calgary Flames in Game 5 of this Western Conference Second Round series Sunday at Honda Center (10 p.m. ET; NBCSN, CBC, TVA Sports).

Coach Bruce Boudreau said the Ducks have a chance to make amends for failing to defeat the Los Angeles Kings after taking a 3-2 series lead in 2014.

Blackhawks experienced at closing out playoff series

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Minnesota Wild face a daunting challenge, trying to rally from a 3-0 series deficit. It might be even tougher considering the opponent.

The Chicago Blackhawks have a lot of Stanley Cup Playoffs success since Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane arrived at the beginning of the 2007-08 season. Chicago is one victory from reaching the Western Conference Final for a fifth time in seven seasons.

A big part of the Blackhawks' ability to consistently advance deep in the postseason is their performances in games when they can advance. Chicago is 13-4 with Toews and Kane in playoff games after they have accumulated three wins a best-of-7 series.
