Flames sure they can end losing streak in Anaheim

ANAHEIM -- The Calgary Flames haven't won a game at Honda Center in more than nine years. Each of the 21 regular-season and Stanley Cup Playoff games here against the Anaheim Ducks since April 25, 2006 have gone the wrong way for the Flames.

The task for the Flames on Sunday in Game 5 of their Western Conference Second Round series against the Ducks (10 p.m. ET; NBCSN, CBC, TVA Sports) is pretty simple. Either the Flames beat the Ducks and snap their losing streak in Orange County, or their 2014-15 season is over; the Ducks lead the best-of-7 series 3-1.

"Elvis is dead, the Beatles have split and life goes on," Calgary coach Bob Hartley said Sunday. "If we didn't believe we could win we would have stayed home. That's one thing. I won't coach a game in this League that I don't believe our team or our organization can't win. I will stay home.

"We can't win three games tonight. We just used a simple word in our team meeting. It is just win. We can only go back to Calgary and force a Game 6 by winning tonight, so that's all that is on our plate." Game 6, if needed, would be Tuesday in Calgary.

Ducks aim to finish Flames, erase postseason failures

ANAHEIM -- The Anaheim Ducks have won seven games in the 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs, equaling their win total from the 2014 playoffs.

Anaheim will have its first chance to secure win No. 8 and advance to the Western Conference Final when it faces the Calgary Flames in Game 5 of this Western Conference Second Round series Sunday at Honda Center (10 p.m. ET; NBCSN, CBC, TVA Sports).

Coach Bruce Boudreau said the Ducks have a chance to make amends for failing to defeat the Los Angeles Kings after taking a 3-2 series lead in 2014.

Ducks add Fleischmann to lineup for center depth

CALGARY -- Anaheim Ducks forward Tomas Fleischmann will be in the lineup for Game 4 of the Western Conference Second Round series against the Calgary Flames at Scotiabank Saddledome on Friday (9:30 p.m. ET; NBCSN, SN, TVA Sports).

Fleischmann skated on a line with Rickard Rakell and Andrew Cogliano at the morning skate, and Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau confirmed he'll play.

"He's a veteran of many playoff [games]," Boudreau said. "He played really well for us in the Winnipeg series, I thought. He's a skilled player but he's played in tough situations before, so I think he'll bring a little bit of that whole thing to our game tonight. He can play center too. It's always nice to have five potential centerman in the lineup in case somebody goes down, because it's such an important position."

Flames' Bouma, Ferland possibilities for Game 4

CALGARY -- Calgary Flames forwards Lance Bouma (upper body) and Micheal Ferland (undisclosed) each will be a game-time decision for Game 4 of the Western Conference Second Round series against the Anaheim Ducks at Scotiabank Saddledome on Friday (9:30 p.m. ET; NBCSN, SN, TVA Sports).

Bouma participated in line rushes with Matt Stajan and David Jones at the morning skate, and Ferland skated on Calgary's extra line with Drew Shore and Markus Granlund.

"Everyone is a game-time decision," Calgary coach Bob Hartley said. "This afternoon we will sit with our medical staff and we're going to go through all of our injuries like we always do. Nothing is changing. We have a few options."

Flames forward Bouma optimistic about Game 4 return

CALGARY -- Forward Lance Bouma might return to the Calgary Flames lineup for Game 4 of the Western Conference Second Round series against the Anaheim Ducks at Scotiabank Saddledome on Friday (9:30 p.m. ET; NBCSN, SN, TVA Sports).

Bouma, who skated on a line with Matt Stajan and David Jones at practice Thursday, has not played in the Stanley Cup Playoffs after missing the final two games of the regular season because of an upper-body injury.

"I feel like I'm ready, but we'll see," he said. "I'm feeling back to normal. Everything is feeling good.

"To be able to get out there with the guys and just skate with them, it was huge. It's nice to be back out there with the guys. Obviously, when you're not around the group and you're skating on your own, [it's hard]. So it's been good. I'm just excited to be back with them."

Ducks' Boudreau considering Game 4 lineup changes

BANFF, Alberta -- Anaheim Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau explored new line combinations during practice Thursday in advance of Game 4 of the Western Conference Second Round series Friday against the Calgary Flames at Scotiabank Saddledome (9:30 p.m. ET; NBCSN, SN, TVA Sports).

Boudreau had forward Tomas Fleischmann skating on a line with Rickard Rakell and Andrew Cogliano, and Jiri Sekac took line rushes alongside Nate Thompson and Tim Jackman. Fleischmann hasn't played since Game 4 of Anaheim's first-round win against the Winnipeg Jets on April 22, and Sekac has yet to play in the 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

"[Sekac] and Fleischmann are both possibilities to be in or out," Boudreau said. "They are a possibility. They played good for us this year, so there's a possibility that both of them can go in, one of them can go in or none of them can go in. I don't know how else to say it without saying this guy's in and this guy's out."

Ducks use day off to get away, relax in mountains

A day after the Anaheim Ducks' first loss of these Stanley Cup Playoffs, they traveled Wednesday to Banff, Alberta, where they will relax before practicing with two days until Game 4 against the Calgary Flames at Scotiabank Saddledome on Friday (9:30 p.m. ET; NBCSN, SN, TVA Sports).

"I think today's the day where you can relax and not think about hockey," captain Ryan Getzlaf said. "Some guys are going on the ice just to get their legs going, but it's about getting away and turning off your brain for a day and then tomorrow getting back to work."

Flames keeping emotions in check after Game 3 win

CALGARY -- The Calgary Flames have preached the value of being even-keel throughout the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The Flames didn't get too low after falling behind 2-0 in the Western Conference Second Round against the Anaheim Ducks. They aren't about to get too high after a come-from-behind 4-3 overtime win in Game 3 at Scotiabank Saddledome that cut Anaheim's lead in the best-of-7 series to 2-1.

"We've got to try and stay even," said forward Mikael Backlund, whose goal 4:24 into overtime gave the Flames their first win of the series. "That's what we've been doing this whole playoffs stretch. Obviously, we feel really good about ourselves after that comeback win. We've got to bring the positivity with us. When the game starts on Friday, it's a 0-0 game and a new game. We will bring some energy with us from last game, but you've got to try and stay even and move on to the next game."

Ducks look to apply killer instinct, take 3-0 series lead

CALGARY -- The Anaheim Ducks know the importance of winning Game 3 of the Western Conference Second Round series against the Calgary Flames at Scotiabank Saddledome on Tuesday (9:30 p.m. ET; USA, SN, TVA Sports).

A victory in Calgary will put the Ducks up 3-0 in the best-of-7 series and push the Flames to the brink of elimination. A loss opens the door for the Flames.

"We were able to do it in Winnipeg and it certainly puts all the pressure on them if we are able to come in here and steal a game," Anaheim defenseman Cam Fowler said. "We understand the importance of it. As soon as you let teams back in the series and they start to gain some confidence, then the wheels start spinning for them and come Game 4 they have a lot of confidence and momentum.

"Tonight is an important hockey game for us and we're not taking it lightly. We know what to expect from them and we're up for the challenge."

Flames get experienced Diaz back for Game 3

CALGARY -- Defenseman Raphael Diaz will return to the Calgary Flames lineup for Game 3 of the Western Conference Second Round series against the Anaheim Ducks at Scotiabank Saddledome on Tuesday (9:30 p.m. ET; USA, SN, TVA Sports).

Coach Bob Hartley confirmed Diaz, who has missed the past 12 games dating to the regular season because of a lower-body injury, will play.

"Diaz is in the lineup," Hartley said. "I thought that before his injury him and David Schlemko were a very solid pair for us. Raphael can give us some power-play play, some solid play in our zone. First pass out of the zone is always great, great shot, and he's a veteran. He's played in this league before, so it's good news."
