OTTAWA -- Boston Bruins captain Zdeno Chara and Ottawa Senators captain Jason Spezza will not play due to injuries when the teams face off Saturday night.

Ottawa defenseman Chris Phillips is also injured and will not play the second game of the home-and-home series between the Senators and Bruins at Canadian Tire Centre.

OTTAWA -- Tuukka Rask's NHL-leading fourth shutout of the season Friday in the Boston Bruins' 5-0 win against the Ottawa Senators may have postponed Niklas Svedberg's first NHL start.

Now, an injury to defenseman Dennis Seidenberg definitely has.

Boston coach Claude Julien said he had made up his mind which goaltender would start the second game of the back-to-back set against Ottawa, but he was keeping that decision to himself.

Rask, Svedberg and backup Chad Johnson were all on the ice Saturday for the Bruins' optional skate at Canadian Tire Centre. However, Svedberg was sent back to Providence of the American Hockey League on Saturday afternoon when it was necessary for the Bruins to recall defenseman Zach Trotman to replace Seidenberg, who will be out for the season with a knee injury sustained Friday.

OTTAWA -- Sidney Crosby was named the NHL's Second Star of the Week on Monday after the Pittsburgh Penguins captain led the way on offense during a stretch where the injury-plagued team's depth on defense was tested to its fullest.

Crosby had two goals and six assists in four games to extend his League scoring lead to 54 points, six ahead of Patrick Kane of the Chicago Blackhawks.

Defensemen Brooks Orpik and Rob Scuderi and forward Tanner Glass, all on injured reserve, and suspended defenseman Deryk Engelland took part in Pittsburgh's morning skate at Canadian Tire Centre on Monday.

The Penguins have won 12 of 13 and will look to extend their seven-game winning streak when they face theOttawa Senators.

OTTAWA -- Ottawa Senators general manager Bryan Murray read the riot act to his players Wednesday after a 5-2 road loss to the New Jersey Devils.

Ottawa fell to 14-16-6 after following a 3-2 overtime win against the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday with the loss to the Devils. It was the seventh straight time the Senators failed to win consecutive games, dating to a season-high three-game winning streak from Nov. 5-9.

Right wing Bobby Ryan said he and his teammates got a clear message from Murray in the Prudential Center dressing room.

"Ruling out all the expletives, 'Wake up!'" Ryan said after Ottawa held an optional skate Thursday. "Wake up and show up. I think what I took most out of it is that we can be the most maddening team he's ever seen. That's a team that shows up against St. Louis, plays a great hockey game, complete for 63 minutes, and then plays zero against a team like New Jersey."

Ottawa captain Jason Spezza said Murray did not deliver any ultimatums or threats, "but it's a definite understanding that if we don't start playing better it could be you out the door."

OTTAWA -- St. Louis Blues coach Ken Hitchcock is going to wait as long as he can before deciding whether forwards Jaden Schwartz and Vladimir Sobotka will play against the Ottawa Senators on Monday.

"They're both banged up, like a lot of guys on our team," Hitchcock said after neither St. Louis forward took part in the team's morning skate at Canadian Tire Centre.

Schwartz and Sobotka played Saturday in the Blues' 4-3 overtime win against the Columbus Blue Jackets that began their two-game road trip.

"We went the other way against Columbus and neither guy was effective in the tail end of the game," Hitchcock said. "It's not starting the game, it's finishing the game. And for us, if we feel like we want them to finish the game, then we're going to have to give them as much rest as we can so that they're ready to go, so we opted not to skate them [Monday]."

Alex Pietrangelo and Jay Bouwmeester were split during the game against the Blue Jackets, resulting in new defensive pairings.

"Quite frankly we weren't playing very good," Hitchcock said. "We weren't playing very good defensively and we needed to make some adjustments."

OTTAWA - Rookie defenseman Cody Ceci will get to play a second game in a row for the Ottawa Senators against the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday.

Ceci made his NHL debut Thursday in Ottawa's 2-1 win against the Buffalo Sabres. He finished plus-2 in 20:40 of ice time, which included time on the power play and penalty killing shifts.

The 19-year-old Ottawa native was recalled from Binghamton of the American Hockey League on an emergency basis Thursday to fill in for Marc Methot, who will miss his second straight game Saturday as he recovers from the flu.

OTTAWA -- Ottawa Senators defenseman Marc Methot has the flu and will be out of the lineup against the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday.

Ottawa called up defenseman Cody Ceci from the Binghamton Senators of the American Hockey League on an emergency basis. Ceci, a first-round pick (No. 15) in 2012, will make his NHL debut against Buffalo.

The 19-year-old ranks third in scoring in Binghamton with 17 points, including two goals, in 24 games.

"The reports on Cody have been he's been outstanding," Ottawa coach Paul MacLean said after the morning skate at Canadian Tire Centre. "He's been the best player on either team for the last 2-3 weeks, if not a month, and he's been playing the best down there, so he's getting an opportunity to come here for a game and we have an opportunity to see him."

OTTAWA -- The Philadelphia Flyers were in a bad way the last time they came to Canadian Tire Centre, but facing the Ottawa Senators proved to be just what they needed to start their climb back into the Eastern Conference playoff picture.

Steve Mason got his first Philadelphia shutout in a 5-0 win against Ottawa on Nov. 12 as the Flyers, who got off to a 4-10-1 start, won consecutive games for the second time this season.

Philadelphia went on to record points in seven straight games (6-0-1) during a span that featured a pair of three-game winning streaks, including one that began with a 5-2 win against Ottawa on Nov. 19.

"We dug ourselves out of a hole and put ourselves in the picture," Flyers right wing Steve Downiesaid. "We're not near where we want to be but we definitely made strides. We've just got to keep improving every day, and try to get a couple more wins and get back in there."

OTTAWA -- Ottawa Senators captain Jason Spezza said he expects the Toronto Maple Leafs to compete through their injuries with the Battle of Ontario set to resume Saturday at Canadian Tire Centre.

The Maple Leafs, who did not hold a morning skate, put center Tyler Bozak on long-term injured reserve earlier in the week because of an oblique strain he suffered Tuesday in a 4-2 loss to the San Jose Sharks that ran their losing streak to five.

Toronto, which snapped its skid Thursday with a 3-2 overtime win against the Dallas Stars, was already missing center Dave Bolland, who has been sidelined since Nov. 2 with an ankle injury.

"We know that they've had injuries, but if you look at us the last couple of years, we've had lots of injuries and managed to play well," Spezza said after Ottawa held an optional skate Saturday. "Injuries can be an opportunity for other guys to step up, so you don't take any team lightly. It doesn't matter who they are or who's hurt, there are some good hockey players on both teams and you don't take anybody for granted, or take anybody lighter."

OTTAWA -- Ottawa Senators defenseman Marc Methot was a late scratch for the game against the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday.

Methot was replaced in the lineup by Jared Cowen, who was originally going to sit out a second straight game as a healthy scratch.
