At the Rink: Predators at Oilers

EDMONTON -- The Edmonton Oilers will attempt to go into an extended NHL All-Star break with a win when they host the Nashville Predators at Rexall Place on Saturday (10 p.m. ET; CBC, SN, FS-TN).

Edmonton (19-25-5) has nine days between games and does not play again until Feb. 2, when center Connor McDavid could return from a fractured clavicle to face the Columbus Blue Jackets.

"This game scares the [heck] out of me all the time," Oilers coach Todd McLellan said. "Your team is either really, really in it, they're focused, they have an energy going because they're going to get a little bit of time off, or they're already off. I believe our group will come and compete real hard."

At the Rink: Flames at Oilers

EDMONTON — Center Sam Bennett does not expect to replicate his recent four-goal performance when the Calgary Flames play at the Edmonton Oilers at Rexall Place on Saturday (10 p.m., ET; CBC, SN), but does hope it leads to more consistency in his game.

Bennett, 19, scored four times in a 6-0 win against the Florida Panthers on Wednesday after scoring one goal in 18 games prior to that.

"You can't get too high from it," Bennett said at the morning skate Saturday. "You have to think of today as a new game and use the confidence from the last game. It's a new game and you have to come at it the same way."

Bennett's first four-goal game in the NHL helped end a two-game losing streak for the Flames (20-20-2).

At the Rink: Panthers at Oilers

EDMONTON -- The Florida Panthers will attempt to extend their franchise-high winning streak to 12 games against the Edmonton Oilers at Rexall Place on Sunday (9:30 p.m. ET; SN1, FS-F).

The Panthers (25-12-4) have not lost since the Boston Bruins defeated them 3-1 on Dec. 12.

"We don't worry about the number of the streak. It's nice and everybody knows where it's at, but it's one game at a time, and we want to be a playoff team," Panthers coach Gerard Gallant said. "We want to get as many points as we can and we'll just worry about the game at hand and try to take care of the two points tonight."

Florida is on a season-high six-game road trip, which began with a 5-1 win at the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday and 3-2 win at the Ottawa Senators on Thursday.

At the Rink: Lightning at Oilers

EDMONTON -- Edmonton Oilers forward Teddy Purcell knows what to expect against center Steven Stamkos and the Tampa Bay Lightning at Rexall Place on Friday (9 p.m. ET; SUN, SNW).

Purcell played five seasons with the Lightning alongside Stamkos before being traded to the Oilers on June 29, 2014.

"He's dangerous," Purcell said. "He'll be the first to admit he could not be playing his best game but he can get two shots on net and can score two goals. He's always a threat when he's on the ice. He has a lot of speed and they have a real good power play so we have to be disciplined and definitely have to be aware of him tonight."

Purcell, 30, is playing well on the Oilers' first line with left wing Taylor Hall and center Leon Draisaitl. He has nine goals and 25 points in 41 games, putting him on pace for his most productive season since 2011-12, when he had 24 goals and 65 points playing on Stamkos' line with the Lightning.

At the Rink: Hurricanes at Oilers

EDMONTON -- Goaltender Cam Talbot will make his fourth consecutive start and sixth in the past seven games for the Edmonton Oilers, who host the Carolina Hurricanes (9 p.m., ET; FS-CR, SNW) at Rexall Place on Monday.

Talbot has regained the No. 1 role for Edmonton (16-21-3) after backing up Anders Nilsson earlier in the season. Talbot had one start in 12 games from Nov. 18–Dec. 11.

"Cam has played really well going all the way back to the Boston (Bruins) game where he entered and saved our bacon that night (in a 3-2 overtime win)," Oilers coach Todd McLellan said. "He's played very well, he'll get another opportunity to do that again tonight. He's confident, the team is confident when he's playing and it's a good marriage there."

Forward Klinkhammer to return to Oilers lineup

EDMONTON -- Forward Rob Klinkhammer is expected to return to the lineup for the Edmonton Oilers against the Arizona Coyotes at Rexall Place on Saturday (4 p.m. ET; SNW).

Klinkhammer sustained an ankle injury Oct. 27 in a 4-3 loss at the Minnesota Wild and missed 21 games. He returned to the lineup Dec. 15 at the New York Rangers and re-injured his ankle late in a 4-2 loss.

At the Rink: Ducks at Oilers

EDMONTON -- Scoring problems have the Anaheim Ducks focusing on defense going into their game against the Edmonton Oilers at Rexall Place on Thursday (9 p.m. ET; KCOP-13, SNW).

The Ducks (14-15-6) have an NHL-low 66 goals this season but are three points out of third place in the Pacific Division.

"It's been weird, I've been on teams where four or five guys really struggle at the same time, but at the beginning of the season, we had about 11 guys slumping at the same time, it was incredible," Ducks forward Andrew Cogliano said. "When guys don't get off to good starts, you start chasing it a little bit, then you don't have the confidence, but we had everyone slumping at the same time. So it wasn't like guys weren't making good plays or guys weren't scoring, we just couldn't believe it, but I think now guys have bought in defensively, because we're at the point where I don't think anyone is looking at their stats too much this year."

At the Rink: Kings at Oilers

EDMONTON -- The Edmonton Oilers look to equal a franchise high for consecutive home wins when they host the Los Angeles Kings (9 p.m. ET; FS-W, SNOL) at Rexall Place on Tuesday.

The Oilers (15-19-3) have won seven consecutive games at home dating back to a 5-1 win against the New Jersey Devils on Nov. 20.

They won eight straight on two occasions in franchise history: Jan. 19-Feb. 22, 1985 and Feb. 24-April 2, 1986.

The game against the Kings is the first of a six-game homestand for the Oilers.

"I think our record indicates [playing at home] makes a difference," Oilers coach Todd McLellan said. "I wouldn't say that makes the wins more accessible at home or the losses greater on the road, but we've been able to have some success here. There is an energy in the building, there has been for a while now, that I think we can capture and it's our job as a team, as a group of players, to keep that energy up and keep our fans excited and believing. We'll try to do that on this homestand."

At the Rink: Jets at Oilers

EDMONTON — The Edmonton Oilers attempt to end a three-game losing streak when they host the Winnipeg Jets at Rexall Place on Monday (9 p.m. ET; TSN 3, SNW) in their last game before the Christmas break.

The Oilers (14-18-2) won six straight before losing to the New York Rangers 4-2, Chicago Blackhawks 4-0 and Colorado Avalanche 5-1 in the final three games of a four-game road trip.

Five of the Oilers' six wins on their winning streak were at home.

"A good start tonight is going to go a long way," Oilers left wing Taylor Hall said. "[The Jets] are a strong, physical team that likes to play down in our end and cycle the puck down low, so we have to eliminate those. We have to eliminate the mistakes that are really giving us trouble in our own end."

At the Rink: Rangers at Oilers

EDMONTON -- The Edmonton Oilers will raise a banner at Rexall Place to honor former coach and general manager Glen Sather on Friday, but the focus against the New York Rangers (9:30 p.m., ET; MSG, SNW) will be on extending their four-game winning streak.

The pregame ceremony will be attended by both teams along with members of the Oilers’ alumni, who won five Stanley Cup championships (1984, 1985, 1987, 1988, 1990) under Sather.

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman and deputy commissioner Bill Daly also will be in attendance.

"I want them to take it all in. I think there is value in that," Oilers coach Todd McLellan said. "I want them to sit there and listen and absorb and recognize what that Oilers generation had on the community and the hockey world and bank it somewhere.

"It's our goal to put a team together like that, that can come back in 2030, 2035, whenever it is, and talk about some of our feats. But we have a lot of work before we get there."
