EDMONTON — Center Sam Bennett does not expect to replicate his recent four-goal performance when the Calgary Flames play at the Edmonton Oilers at Rexall Place on Saturday (10 p.m., ET; CBC, SN), but does hope it leads to more consistency in his game.
Bennett, 19, scored four times in a 6-0 win against the Florida Panthers on Wednesday after scoring one goal in 18 games prior to that.
"You can't get too high from it," Bennett said at the morning skate Saturday. "You have to think of today as a new game and use the confidence from the last game. It's a new game and you have to come at it the same way."
Bennett's first four-goal game in the NHL helped end a two-game losing streak for the Flames (20-20-2).
"I think I've been playing pretty consistent hockey of late and the goals will come if you keep playing the right way," Bennett said. "That's my mindset going into this game."
Calgary has won two of three games against the Oilers (17-23-5) this season. Calgary overcame a 3-1 deficit on Dec. 27 to win 5-3 in their last game against Edmonton.
"We really have to respect their speed and skill, they're probably one of the most dangerous teams off the rush," Flames coach Bob Hartley said. "If you look at their lineup, they have lots of players that can really make a difference offensively and we will have to be at our best. They skate, they're a fast-paced hockey club and they always play great games."
Forward Zack Kassian will make his home debut for Edmonton.
Kassian, 24, played his first game for the Oilers in a 2-1
shootout loss at the San Jose Sharks on Thursday.
"I'm more excited than anything," Kassian said. "I have my first game under my belt, but most importantly, heading into this one, we want to get two points. The standings are really tight and that's my main focus. I'm real excited for the opportunity."
Kassian played 14:23 against the Sharks, had four hits, did not register a point and took a delay of game (puck over the glass) penalty in the third period. It was his first NHL game of the season.
"It was good," Kassian said. "There were a couple of shifts where I felt I was sucking air through a straw, but other than that, I was all right, I just have to keep improving and getting better each game."
The Oilers acquired Kassian from the Montreal Canadiens on Dec. 26 in exchange for goaltender Ben Scrivens. Kassian played four games with Bakersfield of the AHL, scoring one goal, before being recalled by the Oilers on Wednesday.
"I liked his game [in San Jose], he skated well, moved his big body around, made some plays," Oilers coach Todd McLellan said. "He physically got involved. The negative was him taking a penalty late, but those things happen, there is not much you can do about it."
Forward Michael Frolik will make his return to the Flames lineup after missing the past 12 games with an upper body injury.
Goaltender Jonas Hiller will start for the Flames. Cam Talbot will make his eighth start in the past nine games for Edmonton.
