At the Rink: Sharks at Blue Jackets

COLUMBUS -- The Columbus Blue Jackets will welcome back from injury starting goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky and center Artem Anisimov for the game Saturday against the San Jose Sharks in Nationwide Arena, but defenseman Fedor Tyutin will not play because of a left knee injury.

"The Russians can't stay together, for God's sake," Blue Jackets left wing Nick Foligno said. "They'll hang out off the ice but on the ice we can't get them together."

His joke highlighted the continuing injury problems that have plagued the Blue Jackets (5-10-1) and contributed to a nine-game losing streak before a 4-3 win Friday at the Philadelphia Flyers. The Blue Jackets are still down eight players because of injuries, the latest being Tyutin after a knee-on-knee collision with the Flyers' Jakub Voracek.

Tyutin is expected to miss four to six weeks. Saturday, the St. Louis Blues traded defenseman Jordan Leopold to Columbus for a fifth-round pick in the 2016 NHL Draft. Leopold may be available to play against the Sharks.

Anisimov missed seven games with a concussion and Bobrovsky was out seven with a fractured finger on his left hand before being activated Friday, although he did not play. Bobrovsky is 4-4-0 with a 2.81 goals-against average this season. The Blue Jackets are 1-6-1 when he doesn't play.

At the Rink: Hurricanes vs. Blue Jackets

COLUMBUS – The Columbus Blue Jackets will continue their revolving-door lineup Tuesday against the Carolina Hurricanes.

Losers of five straight, the Blue Jackets will welcome back physical forwards Matt Calvert and Boone Jenner. Calvert missed the past four games with an upper-body injury, while Jenner is making his season debut after breaking his left hand in practice Sept. 28.

However, defenseman Ryan Murray will not play vs. the Hurricanes because of a “minor setback,” to his surgically repaired knee, according to Columbus coach Todd Richards. Murray sat the first eight games the 2014-15 season recovering from offseason knee surgery.

Also, defenseman Cody Goloubef sustained a knee injury Saturday during the 3-2 loss at the New Jersey Devils and could be out six weeks.

At the Rink: Maple Leafs at Blue Jackets

COLUMBUS -- Springfield Falcons forward Sean Collins received a couple of stitches under his right eye Wednesday from a wayward stick during an American Hockey League game against the Albany Devils.

That turned out to be an omen for Collins, who was summoned to the injury-ravaged Columbus Blue Jackets the next day and will play on the fourth line Friday against the Toronto Maple Leafs in Nationwide Arena.

"I fit right in with these guys," Collins said, who has 11 games of NHL experience, all with Columbus.

The Blue Jackets lost centers Artem Anisimov and Mark Letestu and defenseman James Wisniewski to injuries during a 5-2 loss to the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday. None of them will play against Toronto, bringing the number of regulars out of the lineup to eight.

A ninth player, left wing Nick Foligno, likely will return after missing the Ottawa game because of a stiff neck sustained in a collision Sunday against the Los Angeles Kings. He was to be evaluated after the morning skate Friday but is anxious to return against Toronto.

At the Rink: Senators at Blue Jackets

COLUMBUS -- The Columbus Blue Jackets returned from three games in California hoping a string of bad luck stayed there.

But that would not be the case when goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky fractured a finger during practice Monday and will be out one-to-two weeks, leaving backup Curtis McElhinney, himself coming from injury, to start Tuesday against the Ottawa Senators at Nationwide Arena.

"We thought we left the injury bug in California," Blue Jackets center Mark Letestu said. "These things seem to pile up but we lost [Bobrovsky] for a stretch last year so we've gone through this before. Curtis has come in played some big games for us like he did last year. We know he's a good goalie. We know he can win games for us. Nothing changes."

At the Rink: Flames at Blue Jackets

COLUMBUS -- Rookie forward Josh Jooris made a good impression during Calgary Flames training camp but it wasn’t enough to earn a spot on the roster at the beginning of the 2014-15 season.

But with forward David Jones (lower body) going on injured reserve, Jooris was promoted Thursday from Adirondack of the American Hockey League and will make his NHL debut Friday against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

"I told him just bring back the buzz and the energy you had in training camp," Flames coach Bob Hartley said. "That ruffled our eyes. I told him, 'Just think you're playing street hockey and mom and dad are watching you from the living room [Friday]. Just keep it simple.'"

Jooris' parents and sister are making the six-hour drive from Burlington, Ontario, to see the game.

"This is what I've been dreaming about since I was a kid," Jooris said. "You always picture yourself in the NHL. You idolize the guys in this dressing room and the guys going against you."

At the Rink: Stars at Blue Jackets

COLUMBUS -- Dallas Stars second-year right wing Valeri Nichushkin will miss the game Tuesday at the Columbus Blue Jackets to remain in Texas for further examination of a hip flexor/groin injury that has hampered him the first two games.

"We're trying to get to the bottom of it," Stars coach Lindy Ruff said. "If he clears everything [Tuesday] he may be back [Wednesday]."

Nichushkin, the No. 10 pick in the 2013 NHL Draft, has no points this season after he had 14 goals and 34 points in 79 games last season.

"It's a tough loss. He brings a lot of skill and speed to our line," Stars left wing Jamie Benn said.

Ruff has shuffled most of the lines but is expected to keep Patrick Eaves and newcomers Jason Spezza and Ales Hemsky together. Eaves has no points while Spezza and Hemsky, teammates on the Ottawa Senatorsat the end of last season, each have one assist.

At the Rink: Rangers at Blue Jackets

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The New York Rangers play Saturday for the first time since defenseman Dan Boyle sustained a broken hand two days prior against the St. Louis Blues that is expected to cost him 4-6 weeks.

Matt Hunwick will replace him when the Rangers play the Columbus Blue Jackets in Nationwide Arena. Hunwick, signed as a free agent from the Colorado Avalanche on July 1, will be with John Moore on the third defensive pairing.

Despite the loss of Boyle, Rangers coach Alain Vigneault expects his defensemen to be an integral part of a speedy attack that has the Blue Jackets worried.

"One of the things that permits us to play a fast game and an up-tempo game, the type of style we like to play, is it's important for us that our defense put the puck in the hands of our forwards," Vigneault said. "That's the only way you can play fast. It's an element I believe since myself and my staff have been here that we've worked on, we've improved, but it's still an area that we need to continue to improve."

Blue Jackets without Umberger for Game 6

COLUMBUS -- Columbus Blue Jackets coach Todd Richards might have been thinking of how he'll match up with the Pittsburgh Penguins later Monday night in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference First Round series when he committed a slip of the tongue: He actually revealed why left wing RJ Umberger would not play Monday (7 p.m. ET; NBCSN, CBC, RDS, FS-O, ROOT) at Nationwide Arena instead of giving the "upper body" or "lower body" answer standard during the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

"Shoulder, sorry, not feeling great … a little slip there," he said to laughter by the media. "Not feeling great, not 100 percent."

Richards regained his footing to not reveal the injury that will also keep defenseman Nikita Nikitin out of the lineup. There are no other changes expected.

Facing elimination, Jackets enjoying underdog role

COLUMBUS -- Pressure? What pressure?

Facing elimination Monday from the Eastern Conference First Round series against the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Columbus Blue Jackets insist they can handle what lies ahead in Game 6 at Nationwide Arena (7 p.m. ET; NBCSN, CBC, RDS, FS-O, ROOT).

In fact, a day after the Penguins' 3-1 victory in Game 5 on Saturday at Consol Energy Center for a 3-2 lead in the best-of-7 series, Columbus coach Todd Richards used different terminology to describe the Blue Jackets' situation.

Blue Jackets plan to crowd, distract Fleury in Game 6

COLUMBUS -- In the wake of goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky being bombarded with 50 shots while being pushed, knocked down and high-sticked in Game 5, the Columbus Blue Jackets promise to make life difficult at the other end of the ice for the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game 6 on Monday at Nationwide Arena.

The Penguins took a 3-2 lead in the best-of-7 Eastern Conference First Round series with a 3-1 home victory Saturday by limiting the Blue Jackets to 24 shots on Marc-Andre Fleury while being all over Bobrovsky.

Columbus plans to change that Monday (7 p.m. ET; NBCSN, CBC, RDS, FS-O, ROOT).
