The Columbus Blue Jackets announced on Tuesday that defenseman James Wisniewski would be sidelined an extended amount of time after breaking a bone in his foot.

Jackets coach Todd Richards informed reporters of the injury Tuesday morning. According to the coach, Wisniewski sustained the injury during Sunday's loss to the Chicago Blackhawks. There is no timetable on his return, but Richards did say that Wisniewski would be out "an extended period of time."

After forward Rene Bourque missed the Montreal Canadiens' past two games with what was originally described by the team as a bout with the flu, coach Michel Therrien confirmed Tuesday that Bourque has a concussion.

Following the Canadiens' 4-3 overtime loss to the New York Islanders last Thursday, Bourque was a late scratch for the team's following game Saturday against the New York Rangers. Initially diagnosed with the flu, Bourque then did not travel with the team when they suffered a 2-1 shootout loss to the Ottawa Senators on Monday night.

In the initial mock drafts by NHL.com staffers on Monday, defenseman Seth Jones of the Portland Winterhawks and Nathan MacKinnon of the Halifax Mooseheads were unanimous picks to go first and second at the 2013 NHL Draft in Newark, N.J.

Choosing Jones No. 1 and MacKinnon No. 2 wasn't too much of a shock considering that's the same order the players are rated in NHL Central Scouting's midterm ranking report. After the first two picks, however, the staffers began going in a few different directions.

Staffers Steven Hoffner and Mike Morreale believe MacKinnon's teammate in Halifax, Jonathan Drouin, will be the third choice. Adam Kimelman thinks the No. 1-ranked skater on Central Scouting's European list, center Aleksander Barkov of Tappara in Finland, will go No. 3.

The Carolina Hurricanes recalled forward Zac Dalpe and defenseman Marc-Andre Gragnani from the Charlotte Checkers of the AHL on Monday.

Forward Andreas Nodl and defenseman Michal Jordan have been reassigned to Charlotte.

This marks the second NHL stint of the season for Dalpe, 23, who made the team’s roster out of training camp. He had two assists in six games with the Hurricanes before being assigned to Charlotte on Feb. 3.

Gragnani hasn't played in the NHL this season.

The Hurricanes' next game is Tuesday night against the Washington Capitals at Verizon Center.

Christopher Nilstorp is set to make his fifth start of the season when the Dallas Stars visit the Nashville Predators on Monday night.

Goalie Kari Lehtonen took part in the morning skate, but won't dress. Lehtonen, who remains on injured reserve as he recovers from a groin injury, is questionable for Tuesday's game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The Stars will also get defenseman Trevor Daley back after he missed the past two games with a neck injury. Additionally, Matt Fraser will make his season debut.

The Detroit Red Wings announced Monday they have signed rookie defenseman Brian Lashoff to a three-year contract extension. Terms were not disclosed.

The 22-year-old Lashoff, signed as an undrafted free agent, made his NHL debut with the Red Wings this season. He has a goal and two assists in 15 games along with a minus-4 rating.

The Phoenix Coyotes signed defensemen David Schlemko to a two-year contract Monday.

According to TSN's Bob McKenzie, the deal is worth $1.1875 million per season.

“We are very pleased to sign David to a multi-year contract," said Coyotes general manager Don Maloney. "David is a skilled defenseman and has developed into a reliable player for us. In today's game where skating, mobility and puck movement are so important for defensemen, David's talent makes us a better team."

Schlemko has two assists in nine games with the Coyotes this season. He ranks second on the team with 26 blocked shots. The 25-year-old has six goals and 27 assists in 118 career games, all with Phoenix.

In terms of injuries, it was mixed bag at New York Rangers practice Monday.

Rick Nash (undisclosed) remained absent and looks like a poor bet to be in the lineup against the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday night. Nash hasn't played since Feb. 17 against the Washington Capitals, when he was a game-time decision with the same unrevealed ailment.

It appears Ryan McDonagh (head) could be absent Tuesday as well, as the defenseman did not practice after leaving Saturday's 3-0 loss after being driven into the board and glass from behind by Montreal Canadiens forward Max Pacioretty.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed defenseman Mark Eaton, a member of their 2009 Stanley Cup championship team, to a one-year contract.

The 35-year-old Eaton had spent time this season with the team's American Hockey League affiliate in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, and more recently was practicing with Pittsburgh in the hopes of earning an NHL contract.

Eaton has career totals of 24 goals, 85 points and 238 penalty minutes in 627 career games for the Flyers, Predators, Penguins and Islanders. He has four goals and 10 points in 60 Stanley Cup Playoff games. All four of those goals came during the Penguins' 2009 Cup run.
