Newark, NJ - The National Hockey League's New Jersey Devils will open their 35th anniversary season in the Garden State on Sat., Oct. 7, when they host the Colorado Avalanche at Prudential Center at 7:00 p.m.
The Devils' home schedule includes 18 weekend dates: seven Friday games, nine Saturday matches and two Sunday contests. In a change for this upcoming season, all Friday night home games will now have a 7:00 p.m. start time.

The club will play its first of 14 home Metropolitan Division matches on Fri., Oct. 13 vs. Washington. New Jersey will have a season-high six-game homestand: Fri., Dec. 15 vs. Dallas, Mon., Dec. 18 vs. Anaheim, Thurs., Dec. 21 vs. NY Rangers, Sat., Dec. 23 vs. Chicago, Wed., Dec. 27 vs. Detroit and Fri., Dec. 29 vs. Buffalo. The 2017 Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins will make their first appearance of the season at Prudential Center on Sat., Feb. 3. The Devils will face-off against the Vegas Golden Knights for the first time in New Jersey on Sun., Mar. 4 at 5 p.m.
The Devils have one home-and-home set this season, against the Columbus Blue Jackets: Tues., Dec. 5 at Nationwide Arena, then Fri., Dec. 8 at Prudential Center. The Devils have 16 sets of back-to-back games this year, which is two fewer than in 2016-17.
New Jersey's schedule away from "The Rock" includes a season-high six-game road trip: Sat., Mar. 10 at Nashville, Wed., Mar. 14 at Vegas for their first game at T-Mobile Arena, Sat., Mar. 17 at Los Angeles, Sun., Mar. 18 at Anaheim, Tues., Mar. 20 at San Jose, and Fri., Mar. 23 at Pittsburgh.
The team also has two four-game trips, three three-game trips, and two two-game trips. The team will close-out the road portion of its schedule/regular season in Washington on Sat., Apr. 7.
The club will have their mandated five-day break from Jan. 8 to 12.
Under the National Hockey League's scheduling matrix, the Devils are playing 28 games vs. Metropolitan Division opposition: four games vs. each club. The squad is scheduled to play 24 matches vs. Atlantic Division teams: three games vs. each team. New Jersey will also face each of the 15 Western Conference clubs twice (30 games).
