BUFFALO - Canada claimed gold at the World Junior Hockey Championship for the 17th time in tournament history on Friday night.

Tyler Steenbergen scored the game-winning goal, snapping a 1-1 tie with 1:40 remaining in regulation time, as the Canadians secured a 3-1 win over Sweden at KeyBank Center.
Dillon Dube and Alex Formenton also found the back of the net for Dominique Ducharme's squad. Formenton's goal was an empty-netter, with Mete picking up the lone helper on the play.
Mete, who logged 21:57 of ice time in the win and registered a plus-3 differential, finished the tournament with three assists in six games.

Goaltender Carter Hart made 35 saves in the victory that earned Canada its first gold medal since the 2015 event in Toronto and Montreal.
The 2019 World Junior Hockey Championship will be held in Canada, with Vancouver and Victoria welcoming the top youngsters from across the globe.
