Last Time Out

  • The Canes put the New York Islanders away on Tuesday night, wrapping up their series on home ice.
  • Carolina scored three goals in the first period, quickly jumping out to a lead, but at the end of 40 minutes, it was a 3-3 game.
  • Two quick goals just eight seconds apart to start the third propelled them to victory though, punching their ticket to Round 2.

The X-Factor

  • As cliche as it is this time of year, this series may come down to who wins the special teams battle. Both teams scored as many as they gave up at even strength during the opening round series, and each continued to have success on special teams, as they both did during the regular season.
  • Carolina scored seven goals against New York in three regular season meetings. Three came on the power play.
  • New York scored just four goals in their three contests against the Canes. One came on the man advantage.

Stay Hot, Seth

  • Seth Jarvis led Carolina with seven points in Round 1, including two three-point games.
  • No. 24 had a breakout regular season, totaling a career-best 67 points in 81 contests. Working alongside Teuvo Teravainen and Jordan Staal at practice the past few days, will he shine again in Round 2?

Other Numbers

  • Teuvo Teravainen recorded a point in Games 2, 3, 4, and 5 in Round 1, giving him a four-game point streak coming into tonight.
  • Sebastian Aho has earned 14 points (5G, 9A) in 10 career playoff games against the Rangers.
  • Jake Guentzel has recorded 10 points (8g, 2a) in seven career playoff games against the Rangers.

In Net

  • Frederik Andersen was the team's workhorse in net during Round 1, playing all five games.
  • The first time since last year's second round that he made five starts in a row, "Zilla" was solid, holding New York to three goals or less in each outing.
  • His .912 save percentage in Round 1 ranks sixth among all goalies who played at least four games, and his .867 high-danger save percentage ranks tied for fifth.

On The Other Side

  • The league's best regular season team, the Rangers flexed their muscles in a four-game sweep of the Capitals.
  • Winning three of the four games by multiple goals, the only possible downside to the quick work is that it's now been a week since they've last played a game.
  • Mika Zibanejad led the way for the Rangers with seven points in the four games, while former Hurricane Vincent Trocheck had a team-leading three goals.
  • Goaltender Igor Shesterkin gave up just five goals in the four games and his .931 save percentage ranked second-best of all Round 1 goalies who played at least four games.

Injury Updates

  • Forward Jesper Fast suffered an upper-body injury in the team's regular season finale on Tuesday, April 16. On Thursday, April 25, Rod Brind'Amour said that he is likely out for the entire postseason.
  • Defenseman Brett Pesce suffered a lower-body injury during Round 1, Game 2. Brind'Amour said he's not counting on #22 being available this series, but he remains hopeful he may be able to get in at some point. He did not travel with the team, so he will not be an option for the first two games of the series.

What Are We Wearing?

  • The team will be wearing their black sweaters for all home games during the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs, and white for all road games.
