Six Youth Hockey Associations To Receive Hockey Equipment Grants
The Xcel Energy/Minnesota Wild “Play Our Game” Equipment Grant Program today awarded six hockey equipment grants to the following youth hockey associations in Minnesota: Detroit Lakes Hockey Association, St. Paul Edgcumbe Hockey Association, Sartell Hockey Association, Twig Area Hockey Association, Willmar Hockey Association and Windom Youth Hockey Association. These hockey associations will use the grants as an incentive to attract new participants to their program.
“One of the major challenges in getting children to give hockey a try is the need for an initial investment in equipment,” said Mark Jorgensen, Executive Director of Minnesota Hockey. “This grant program allows community hockey associations to provide equipment for those who want to try the game. Once children try hockey we believe they will love it because of the fun, speed and excitement of the game.”

grantees were selected from a large pool of applications from local hockey associations across the state. A three-member panel determined the awardees. Over $80,000 in equipment has been donated to local hockey associations across Minnesota in the six years of the program’s existence.
