Wild's Best Of The Web - Jan. 29

by Kelly Erickson / Minnesota Wild

It’s not always easy staying tuned in to all things Wild online. Whether it’s a story or a funny Tweet, we’ve got you covered with the best links from around the web.

We’ve captured the magic of Hockey Day Minnesota 2014 in a variety of ways this year. But our final installment may just be the best one yet.

This isn’t the first time I’ve featured his work on here, but Managing Editor Mike Doyle seized the very essence of the picture perfect day in his feature on this year’s events, as Elk River played host. I don’t want to spoil the story, so go read it for yourself!

I’ll readily admit, when I first saw @mnwild’s tweet of Zach Parise modeling this year’s Olympic outfit, designed by Ralph Lauren, I was jealous. It was a masterpiece of hodge-podge ugliness in a beautifully patriotic knit that surpassed any mere idea of an ugly sweater that preceded it. I wanted it, and still do.

Regardless of my aching need for that sweater — which happened to be released the same day Parise made his return to the Wild’s lineup — the photo of Parise soon became a hot topic of the day. According to the left-winger, even his teammates pasted a few 8 x 10’s of it around the locker room. But it didn’t end there. City Pages posted a quick story about the photo, but also included a GQ photo that may very well be the very photo that causes the puck-hound to hang up his skates and pursue a modeling career. (Let’s hope that doesn’t happen. We like him where he is.)

Finally, Puck Daddy got in on the fun and unveiled a series of other potential uniforms, jokingly, with poor Parise’s face photoshopped on each candidate.

It’s been an interesting year to be a Wild goaltender. With three different guys having spent major minutes between the pipes, each has stepped up in turn at some point this season.

Chad Graff of the Pioneer Press explored the topic earlier this week, especially in light of Darcy Kuemper’s recent play in net and the healthy relationship he’s formed with Niklas Backstrom.

Beating the defending Cup champs is so nice, the Wild decided to do it thrice.

The Blackhawks have only lost in regulation 10 times this season and the Wild is responsible for three of those losses. It’s a pretty neat feat, so of course we couldn’t resist pointing it out, twice.

It’s a universal agreement that Mondays are not fun days. It’s the beginning of the work week and sometimes it just takes the day to get back into the work routine.

Well, the Wild’s wiley mascot, Nordy, seemed to capture the Monday feel quite succinctly. We feel ya Nordy, we feel ya.

We’re big fans of pointing out big landmarks for our Wild players. And while some players have had some recently, none match that of Don Fuller’s.

Tuesday night marked the Wild’s Athletic Therapist’s 1,000th NHL game. He’s been with the Wild from its very beginnings. The Wild staff and players honored the landmark by wearing t-shirts during warmups.
