With the Minnesota State Fair wrapping up on Monday and schools starting shortly thereafter, summer is unofficially over. That means we are ready for hockey season, and for Wild training camp, which opens on Friday, September 15.

Before we welcome back Marian Gaborik, Wes Walz and Brian Rolston, and welcome Pavol Demitra, Mark Parrish and Kim Johnsson, the youngsters are going to take center stage one more time. A total of 20 Wild prospects - including 15 Wild draft picks and each of the team’s last three first round picks - will take the ice next week at the 2006 NHL Centre I.C.E. Prospects Tournament in Traverse City, Michigan.

The tournament kicks off on September 8th and wraps up with the championship game on September 12. The Wild prospects will be joined by prospects from seven other NHL teams including the: Columbus Blue Jackets, Dallas Stars, St. Louis Blues, Atlanta Thrashers, Detroit Red Wings, New York Rangers and Tampa Bay Lightning.

James Sheppard (9th overall in 2006), Benoit Pouliot (4th overall in 2005) and A.J. Thelen (12th overall in 2004) highlight the roster as the three first round picks. Former Minnesota Gopher Danny Irmen will also take part, as will Tryout defenseman Tysen Dowzak, a native of Fergus Falls, Minnesota.

Per tournament rules, each team may have a maximum of four players with one year of professional experience each. Minnesota’s for will be defenseman Shawn Belle and Clayton Stoner, and forwards Peter Olvecky and Roman Voloshenko, all of whom skated for the Houston Aeros last year.

In order to participate, all skaters must have been born no later than 1983. Goaltenders are exempt from this rule.

Below is the Wild Prospect Tournament roster, followed by the team’s game schedule.
