SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- Minnesota Wild General Manager Chuck Fletcher today announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has signed defenseman Shane Hnidy (NIGH-dee) to a one-year contract.

Hnidy, 33 (11/8/75), tied his career-high with 12 points (3-9=12) in 2008-09 with the Boston Bruins. He added 45 penalty minutes (PIM). Hnidy scored one goal in seven playoff games with the Bruins.

Hnidy has played 477 games over nine NHL seasons with Ottawa, Nashville, Atlanta, Anaheim and Boston, totaling 57 points (14-43=57) and 565 PIM. The 6-foot-2, 204-pound native of Neepawa, Manitoba, was Buffalo’s seventh-round pick (No. 173 overall) in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft.
