The Minnesota Wild inked its first member from the Draft Class of 2006 on Saturday when it signed right wing Cal Clutterbuck
, the club's third round pick from a year ago. Pegged as a hard-working sparkplug by the Wild brass at last year's draft, the 5-foot-10, 203 pound Clutterbuck has shown some offensive punch with the Oshawa Generals in the Ontario Hockey League.
In 65 OHL games last season, Clutterbuck ranked second on the Generals with 54 assists and third with 35 goals and 89 points. More than half of his goals came via special teams with 19 power play goals and six shorthanded tallies, which ranked third in the OHL.
In four OHL seasons, Clutterbuck totaled 202 points (93-109=202) and 501 penalty minutes in 256 games with Toronto St. Michaels and Oshawa. He was taken by Minnesota with the 72nd overall pick last year after notching 68 points (35-33=68) in 66 games with Oshawa in 2005-06.
Clutterbuck is a likely candidate to begin his pro career next season with the Houston Aeros, who recently hired Kevin Constantine as the next head coach.
