Wild sells out home opener in eight minutes

SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The National Hockey League’s (NHL) Minnesota Wild announced today that its Saturday, Oct. 11, home opener against the Boston Bruins sold out in eight minutes. More than 750 fans lined up at the Xcel Energy Center Box Office to purchase single-game tickets when they went on sale at 9:00 a.m. this morning. Other games that sold out include both home games against the Detroit Red Wings, and also games versus the Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens. The Wild has sold out all 321 pre-season, regular season and playoff games in franchise history.

In all, fans purchased more than 25,000 regular season single-game tickets through the Xcel Energy Center Box Office and Ticketmaster locations.  Dwight Greenbush was the first in line, setting up camp Tuesday at 7:20 p.m. Fans who purchased tickets this morning also had the opportunity to skate on the Xcel Energy Center ice.

“We had one of our most successful regular season on-sale mornings in club history that included open skating on the Xcel Energy Center ice for our fans,” Wild Vice President of Sales & Service Jamie Spencer said. “This is another example of the great fan support and excitement for Minnesota Wild hockey that we have received since the club's inception.”

A limited number of tickets are still available for most remaining Minnesota Wild regular season home games and the club’s three preseason games at Xcel Energy Center.  Tickets can be purchased at the Xcel Energy Center Box Office (199 West Kellogg Boulevard), on the Minnesota Wild web site at and at all Ticketmaster ( locations or charge by calling Ticketmaster at (651) 989-5151.  The Xcel Energy Center Box Office is open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday and three hours prior to Sunday events. 

The Wild opens the 2008-09 regular season at Xcel Energy Center on Saturday, Oct. 11 against the Boston Bruins at 7:30 p.m. on FSN North and WCCO Radio. The Wild’s home schedule features 17 weekend games (six on Friday, eight on Saturday and three on Sunday) and three afternoon contests (Nov. 28, Feb. 8 and March 22). Most evening games at Xcel Energy Center will begin at 7:00 p.m.
