CHICAGO -- With its sixth-round pick (178th overall) in the 2017 NHL Draft, the Minnesota Wild selected forward Nick Swaney of the Waterloo Black Hawks of the USHL.

Scouting report: A former Lakeville South Cougar, Swaney honed his game in Waterloo the past two seasons, scoring 26 goals and 51 points in 47 games in 2016-17, one year after posting 30 goals and 50 points in 54 games.
Swaney was one of the best high school players in the state his final year with Lakeville South, scoring 25 goals and 57 points in just 25 games in 2014-15.
The smart, two-way right wing will return to the State of Hockey this fall when he begins his collegiate career at the University of Minnesota Duluth.
