Wild Selects Belpedio After Third-Round Trade

by Kelly Erickson / Minnesota Wild

The Wild made the third round a little more interesting at the 2014 NHL Entry Draft in Philadelphia.

Slated to pick no. 79 overall, the Wild traded its pick to Tampa Bay for the no. 80 pick and a seventh round pick in 2015.

Picking just one spot later, the Wild selected defenseman Louis Belpedio from the U.S. National Development Program — its second pick from the program so far this draft (yes, making it two-for-two). Last season the 5-foot-10, 193-pound blueliner tallied 23 points in 61 games played with seven goals and 16 assists. He also registered 44 PIM and a plus-14 rating. The Skokie, Illinois native is a Miami of Ohio commit.
