| Defenseman Shawn Belle has a goal and eight assists through 21 games with Houston this season. |
Ideally, the Minnesota Wild would like to bolster its roster with players that started the season on the big club roster, but have suffered injuries. For the time being, the Wild has needed to continually supplement the roster with players from the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League.
Shawn Belle, Minnesota’s top defensive prospect was recalled from Houston on Wednesday, just a day after Kurtis Foster left the Wild’s 2-1 loss to San Jose after getting hit in the throat with a puck while sitting on the bench. Foster went to the hospital for X-rays on Wednesday night, but as of Thursday morning, there has been no official word regarding his status.
Belle was one of the final cuts from the Wild roster prior to the conclusion of training camp. In his first full season with the Aeros, Belle has notched a goal and eight assists in 21 games. At the time of his call up, the 6-foot-2, 238-pound speedster ranked second among Aeros defensemen in assists and third in points.
Belle was a key component of a March 9 trade last season, which also brought defenseman Martin Skoula to the Wild in exchange for Willie Mitchell and a 2007 second round draft pick.
Belle will wear sweater number four in his NHL debut with the Wild.
