The Minnesota Wild has recalled defenseman Gustav Olofsson (pronounced GOO-stahv OH-lawf-suhn) from the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League (AHL) under emergency conditions. The Wild has also placed defenseman Marco Scandella on injured reserve with a lower-body injury suffered in Tuesday’s game at Pittsburgh.
Olofsson, 20 (12/1/94), has recorded three assists in 17 games with Iowa this season. The 6-foot-3, 197-pound native of Boras, Sweden, has collected four points (1-3=4) and 37 shots on goal in 26 career AHL games with Iowa. Olofsson suffered a season-ending injury in Iowa’s first game of the 2014-15 season. He collected eight points (4-4=8) in 30 games in his freshman campaign with Colorado College in 2013-14 and tallied five points (1-4=5) to help Sweden claim a silver medal at the 2014 World Junior Championship. Olofsson was selected by Minnesota in the second round (46th overall) of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. He has not appeared in a NHL game and will wear sweater No. 23 with Minnesota.
