Iowa Wild 2013-14 Record: 17-16-3-2, 39 points, Fifth Place in Midwest Division
The Iowa Wild, Minnesota Wild’s American Hockey League affiliate, went 2-0-1 in three games last week at Wells Fargo Arena. The Wild suffered a 4-3 overtime loss against the Toronto Marlies on Wednesday. C Carson McMillan led Iowa with two points (1-1=2) while C Jake Dowell and D Steven Kampfer also scored for the Wild. G Johan Gustafsson stopped 33-of-37 shots in the loss. Iowa won its second match and first contest against the Lake Erie Monsters, 6-1 on Friday. D Jon Landry (0-2=2), D Brian Connelly (1-1=2), Dowell (1-1=2) and RW Jim McKenzie (0-2=2) tallied two points each. Gustafsson made 25 saves to earn the win. The Wild won its final home game and second meeting against the Monsters with a 1-0 shutout Saturday. G John Curry earned his first shutout of the season, saving all 45 shots while F Warren Peters netted the Wild’s lone goal. Connelly leads the Wild with 22 points (2-20=22). F Erik Haula (9-8=17), D Jonathon Blum (4-13=17), McMillan (8-9=17) and F Zack Phillips (6- 11=17) each have 17 points. Gustafsson is 7-7-1 with a 2.75 GAA, a .910 SV% and one shutout in 16 games while Curry is 3-2-1 with a 1.95 GAA, .942 SV% and one shutout in six games. Iowa will travel south for a three-game road trip with games at Texas on Wednesday and at San Antonio on Friday and Saturday.
CANADIAN HOCKEY LEAGUES
D Matt Dumba - Portland (WHL): The Wild’s first-round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft recorded four points (1-3=4) and a plus-5 rating in first three games with Portland. Loaned to Portland Jan. 7 after totaling goal and assist in 13 games with Minnesota. Expected to play this weekend for Winterhawks. Totaled an assist, a plus-4 rating in seven games as alternate captain as Canada finished fourth at 2014 World Junior Championship in Sweden.
RW Kurtis Gabriel - Owen Sound (OHL): The Wild’s third-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft tallied two PIM in one game last week. Ranks second on team in PIM (66), 3rd in assists (20), T-3rd in scoring (9-20=29) and T-4th in goals (9). Named an assistant captain (10/15).
D Dylan Labbe - Shawinigan (QMJHL): Minnesota’s fourth-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft recorded an assist in two games last week. Leads Shawinigan defensemen and ranks second on the team in assists (15) and scoring (5-15=20).
D Nolan De Jong - Michigan (Big Ten): Michigan did not play last week. The Wild’s seventh-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.
D John Draeger - Michigan State (Big Ten): The Wild’s third-round selection in the 2012 Entry Draft has not played in Michigan State’s last four games.. Missed nine games due to an abdominal injury (10/9-11/9).
C Adam Gilmour - Boston College (Hockey East): The Wild’s fourth-round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft recorded four points (3-1=4) in three wins for Boston College last week. Ranks second on the Eagles in GWG (3) and T-3rd in PPG (3). Boston College is ranked 2nd in the country.
LW Mario Lucia - Notre Dame (Hockey East): The Wild’s second-round selection in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft tallied three points (2-1=3) in two games as Notre Dame swept a weekend series vs. Lake Superior State. Scored three points (2-1=3) on Dec. 7 earning second two-goal game of the season and third of his career. Ranks T-2nd on the Irish in points (12-8=20) and in power-play scoring (6- 3=9).
LW Louis Nanne - Sioux Falls (USHL): Minnesota’s seventh-round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft recorded four shots on net in two games last week. Tallied an assist and two PIM in his return to action Nov. 30 after he missed 22 games following shoulder surgery this summer.
D Gustav Olofsson - Colorado College (NCHC): Colorado College went 0-1-1 in its weekend series vs. Providence. The Wild’s second-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft tallied five points (1-4=5) and a plus-5 rating in seven games to help Sweden claim a silver medal at the 2014 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship in Malmo, Sweden. Ranked T-2nd in scoring amongst defensemen in the tournament. Recorded three points (2-1=3) in five games, including a three-game point streak (11/19-11/23) after missing four games with a shoulder injury (10/25-11/2).
C Avery Peterson - Grand Rapids (High School): Minnesota’s sixth-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft tallied two goals in Grand Rapids 5-0 victory at Hibbing/Chisholm (1/16). Had his 38-game point streak end as Grand Rapids suffered a 5-0 loss to Duluth East (1/9). Tied career-high with four goals and set a new career high with six points (4-2=6) vs. Hopkins (1/4). Registered four goals, including two PPGs in the Thunderhawks 7-2 victory over St. Francis (12/27). Leads team in goals (21), assists (19) and scoring (21-19=40). Collected eight points (3-5=8) including 2 PPG and a plus-3 rating in 11 games with Sioux City (USHL).
D Nick Seeler - Nebraska Omaha (NCHC): The Wild’s fifth-round selection in 2011 NHL Entry Draft recorded two PIM as Nebraska Omaha went 1-0-1 in its weekend series at Miami. Ranks first on the Mavericks in PIM (45).
D Carson Soucy - Minnesota Duluth (NCHC): Minnesota’s fifth-round selection in 2013 NHL Entry Draft recorded four PIM in two games as Minnesota Duluth went 0-1-1 vs. Denver last weekend. Ranks third among defensemen in points (0-5=5).
C Christoph Bertschy - SC Bern (Swiss): The Wild’s sixth-round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft is currently sidelined with an ankle injury. Named to Switzerland’s preliminary roster for world junior tournament but did not participate due to injury.
D Daniel Gunnarsson - Lulea HF (Sweden): Lulea went 2-0-0 in two games last week. Minnesota’s fifth-round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft leads all defensemen and ranks 6th on the team in assists (10) and eighth in scoring (2-10=12).
Alexandre Belanger - Rouyn-Noranda (QMJHL): The Wild’s seventh-round selection in this summer’s 2013 NHL Entry Draft went 1-1-0 in two starts last week. Ranks T-3rd in QMJHL in wins (22) and 13th in GAA (3.21). Earned first shutout of the season as the Huskies blanked Sherbrooke, 3-0 (11/16). Named QMJHL third star of the week on Oct. 28 after going 3-0-0 with a 2.33 GAA and a .926 SV%.
Steve Michalek - Harvard (ECAC): Minnesota’s sixth-round selection in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft Went 0-1-0 in two games (one start) as Harvard lost to Cornell and Colgate last weekend.
