Wild Prospects Report - Feb. 23

HOUSTON AEROS (28-24-6-1, 8th in West Division) – The Houston Aeros earned one win in three straight road games over the weekend. Houston was blanked by the Milwaukee Admirals 2-0. Barry Brust stopped 27 of 29 shots faced. The Aeros couldn’t find a way to bounce back on Saturday night, as they were defeated 7-1 by the Chicago Wolves. D Maxim Noreau scored a first period marker for Houston, but not before five Chicago goals and a goalie change for the Aeros. Wade Dubielewicz allowed four goals on 17 shots in the loss. The Aeros claimed a victory Sunday as they beat the Peoria Rivermen 4-1. LW Colton Gillies tallied the games-winning goal and Brust made 31 saves. C Chad Rau, RW Duncan Milroy and RW Danny Irmen also scored for Houston. The Aeros face the Manitoba Moose at home Thursday before a home-and-home series against the Texas Stars Friday and Saturday.

Canadian Hockey Leagues

D Tyler Cuma - Ottawa (OHL):
First round pick (23rd overall) in 2008 Draft played one game last week and earned an assist in a win. He now has 18 points (2-16=18) in 44 games.

LW Kris Foucault - Calgary (WHL): The fourth round pick (103rd overall) in 2009 Draft posted a goal and two assists in Calgary's two wins over the weekend. Foucault now has 15 goals and 17 assists in 58 games.

D Marco Scandella - Val-D'Or (QMJHL): Second round selection (55th overall) in 2008 was suspended on February 9 for 15 games for a hit to the head. At the time of his suspension, Scandella led his team with a +11 rating, and ranked second among team defensemen in points (9-22=31).   


C Anthony Hamburg - Omaha (USHL): Seventh round pick (193rd overall) in 2009 Draft, and Colgate University recruit owns 20 points on five goals and 15 assists in 43 games.

LW Erik Haula - Omaha (USHL): The University of Minnesota recruit and seventh round pick (182nd overall) in 2009 NHL Draft picked up an assist in one game over the weekend. He ranks third in the USHL in scoring with 62 points on 24 goals and 38 assists. He also ranks third with a +30 rating.

D Sean Lorenz - Notre Dame (CCHA): Fourth round pick (115th overall) has two goals and an assist in 30 games this season.

D Kyle Medvec - Vermont (HE): Fourth round pick in 2006 (102nd overall) leads all Vermont defensemen in scoring with five goals and 10 assists to go along with an even rating.


Matt Hackett - Plymouth (OHL):
The third round draft pick (77th overall) stopped 67 of 72 shots last week in winning both starts. He ranks second in the OHL with a .925 save percentage, third with 31 wins and tied for fourth with a 2.63 goals against average.

Darcy Kuemper - Red Deer (WHL): The sixth round pick (161st overall) in last year's draft now boasts a 26-18-0-3 record. He ranks seventh in the WHL with a 2.61 goals against average, and tied for fifth with a .913 save percentage.
