Iowa Wild 2013-14 Record: 21-19-6-4, 52 points, Fifth Place Midwest Division
The Iowa Wild, Minnesota Wild’s American Hockey League affiliate, went 1-2-0 in three games last week. The Wild defeated the Milwaukee Admirals, 3-1, at BMO Harris Bradley Center on Friday. LW Erik Haula (2-0=2) and D Kyle Medvec (0-2=2) led the night with two points apiece. RW Jim McKenzie also scored for the Wild while D Jon Landry, D Jonathon Blum and LW Stephane Veilleux tallied an assist each. G John Curry stopped 27-of-28 shots to earn the win. Iowa returned home dropping its first contest against the Rockford IceHogs, 5-3, at Wells Fargo Arena Saturday night. Haula recorded a team-leading three points (1-2=3) while F Justin Mercier and Veilleux also netted goals for the club. G Johan Gustafsson made 34 saves earning the loss. The Wild dropped its second contest against the IceHogs, 4-2, Sunday night in Des Moines. LW Curt Gogol and Blum scored for Iowa as forwards Riley Brace, Kris Foucault, Taylor Matson and Zack Phillips each tallied an assist. Curry earned the loss stopping 26-of-29 shots. D Brian Connelly leads the Wild with 30 points (4-26=30) this season. Blum (6-19=25) is second with 25 points while Haula (12-12=24) ranks third with 24 points. C Carson McMillan (11-12=23) and Phillips (9-14=23) are ranked fourth with 23 points. Gustafsson is 8-11-2 with a 3.10 GAA, a .903 SV% and one shutout in 23 games. Curry is 6-3-2 with a 1.95 GAA, .939 SV% and one shutout in 12 games. Iowa will travel to Rochester on Wednesday to face the Americans before heading to Lake Erie for back-to-back games against the Monsters on Friday and Saturday.
CANADIAN HOCKEY LEAGUES
D Matt Dumba - Portland (WHL): The Wild’s first-round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft tallied two assist and 13 PIM in four games last week. He was loaned to Portland Jan. 7. In 15 games in the WHL, the blueliner has 12 points (2-10=12) and is plus-19.
RW Kurtis Gabriel- Owen Sound (OHL): The Wild’s third-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft recorded three points (1-2=3) in three games. He ranks T-1st on the team in assists (27), third in scoring (37) and PIM (79).
D Dylan Labbe- Shawinigan (QMJHL): Minnesota’s fourth-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft netted goal and two PIM in two games. Leads all defensemen and ranks third on the team in scoring (24 points) and fourth in assists (16).
D Nolan De Jong - Michigan (Big Ten): The Wild’s seventh-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft has five assists in his freshman season.
D John Draeger - Michigan State (Big Ten): The Wild’s third-round selection in the 2012 Entry Draft earned an assist and two PIM as Michigan State went 1-0-1 in two games at Penn State last weekend. Has six assists in 17 games.
C Adam Gilmour - Boston College (Hockey East): The Wild’s fourth-round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft tallied an assist and two PIM as Eagles clinched the Hockey East regular season title in its weekend series sweep at Vermont. The freshman has 15 points (6-9=15) this year.
LW Mario Lucia - Notre Dame (Hockey East): The Wild’s second-round selection in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft recorded an assist as Notre Dame went 1-0-1 at Providence. Has 15 goals and 12 assists in 31 games.
LW Louis Nanne- Sioux Falls (USHL): Scored two points (1-1=2) and plus-3 rating in three games. Has two goals and three assists this year.
D Gustav Olofsson - Colorado College (NCHC): The Wild’s second-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft tallied an assist as Colorado College went 1-0-1 in weekend series vs. Western Michigan. He has four goals and three assists in his freshman year.
C Avery Peterson - Grand Rapids (High School): Minnesota’s sixth-round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft netted a goal in the first Section 7AA Quarterfinal game against Forest Lake (2/18). Grand Rapids will face Duluth East (2/22). Peterson is a finalist for Minnesota’s Mr. Hockey Award with 65 points (35-30=65) in 25 games.
D Nick Seeler - Nebraska Omaha (NCHC): The Wild’s fifth-round selection in 2011 NHL Entry Draft recorded two points (1-1=2) and two PIM as Nebraska Omaha went 1-0-1 vs. Denver. He has four goals and five assists this year.
D Carson Soucy - Minnesota Duluth (NCHC): Minnesota’s fifth-round selection in 2013 NHL Entry Draft marked two PIM as Minnesota Duluth dropped its weekend series at St. Cloud State. He has five assists as a freshman.
C Christoph Bertschy - SC Bern (Swiss): SC Bern did not play last week. The Wild’s sixth-round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft missed 13 games due to an ankle injury (12/6-1/18). Named to Switzerland’s preliminary roster for world junior tournament but did not participate due to injury.
D Daniel Gunnarsson - Lulea HF (Sweden): Minnesota’s fifth-round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft has not played in Lulea’s last six games. Ranks T-2nd amongst defensemen and ranks sixth on the team in assists (11) and T-9th in scoring (13).
Alexandre Belanger - Rouyn-Noranda (QMJHL): The Wild’s seventh-round selection in this summer’s 2013 NHL Entry Draft went 1-1-0 in two games last week. Ranks fifth in QMJHL in wins (26) and 12th in GAA (3.27).
Steve Michalek - Harvard (ECAC): Minnesota’s sixth-round selection in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft went 1-0-1 in two starts last week…In his last four starts, Michalek has posted a 3-0-1 record with a .961 GAA and a .967 SV% with two shutouts (2/7-2/15).
