Wild Postgame Notes vs. Los Angeles - Oct. 3

Kings C Anze Kopitar scored the winning goal in a shootout as a sellout crowd of 18,511 fans watched Los Angeles earn a 3-2 shootout victory over Minnesota Thursday night at Xcel Energy Center. Next up, Minnesota hosts the Anaheim Ducks Saturday at 7 p.m. on FOX Sports North and KFAN 100.3 FM.

Five of the last seven games between the Wild and Kings at Xcel Energy Center have gone to a shootout, as Minnesota moved to 3-0-2 in those games. Eighteen of the 48 all-time games between the teams have gone past regulation.

The Wild moved to 11-0-2 in home openers at Xcel Energy Center, seeing a streak of 11 straight victories end.

LW Matt Cooke started the Wild’s season scoring just 1:04 into his first game with the Wild. C Kyle Brodziak and C Mikael Granlund notched assists on the goal.

D Jonas Brodin scored his first goal of the season with a power-play tally in the first period. Playing in his first game with Minnesota, RW Nino Niederreiter assisted on the goal.

G Niklas Backstrom stopped 16-of-18 shots faced through overtime, as the Kings scored on both shootout attempts.

Minnesota moved to 7-4-2 all-time in season openers.

D Drew Doughty scored for the Kings in the first period, while C Jeff Carter tied the game for LA in the third period.

Wild RW Justin Fontaine made his NHL debut registering 6:42 TOI.
