It’s time once again for Wild fans to decide the DQ Bakes Play of the Week based on three of the best efforts provided by Wild players from recent games. Voting ends Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.
The winning vote getter for the week of Dec. 28 was Nino Niederreiter’s second effort against the Dallas Stars on Dec. 21. Niederreiter and Charlie Coyle executed a complicated give-and-go, with Coyle receiving a pass off the boards that he dropped behind him, leaving the puck in the crease for Niederreiter, who pounced on it for a shot and then buried his own rebound.
This week’s nominees are:
PLAY #1 Charles In Charge (Dec. 28, 2015 vs. DET) Charlie Coyle scored his ninth goal of the season in highlight-reel fashion against Detroit. Coyle worked his way inside of Brendan Smith, with a nice move and speed, before roofing the puck past Detroit goalie Petr Mrazek.
PLAY #2 Haula Of A Finnish (Dec. 31, 2015 at STL) Erik Haula scored the game-winning goal at St. Louis on New Year’s Eve. The beneficiary of some hard work behind the net by Nino Niederreiter, who passed it to the side of the goal, Haula threw it on net from a tough angle and snuck it past Blues goalie Jake Allen.
PLAY #3 Duby Paddle In The Bay (Jan. 2, 2016 at TBL) Devan Dubnyk made 28 saves against the Lightning, none more impressive than this overtime stop on Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman. Herman worked his way in front of the goal and kept moving to the left of the net, creating a an open look. He shot the puck but Dubnyk batted it out of the air with the paddle of his goalie stick to keep the game going.
