It’s time once again for Wild fans to decide the DQ Bakes Play of the Week based on three of the best efforts provided by Wild players from recent games. Voting ends Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.
The winning vote getter for the week of Dec. 14 was Jared Spurgeon’s mid-air tip-in of a Zach Parise centering pass in the Wild’s game against the Coyotes in Arizona on Dec. 11.
This week’s nominees are:
PLAY #1 Tic-Tac-Thomas (Dec. 15, 2015 vs. VAN) Thomas Vanek redirected a perfect Zach Parise pass by Vancouver Canucks goaltender Ryan Miller to open the scoring with a power-play goal. It was a complete team effort as Mikko Koivu won the face-off to Ryan Suter, who moved the puck to Jason Pominville. Pominville earned the secondary assist by passing to Parise who fed Vanek for his 11th goal of the season.
PLAY #2 Parise as 1, 2, 3 (Dec. 15, 2015 vs. VAN) Parise provided an incredible individual effort to finally score, pushing the Wild to a 3-0 lead in the second period last Tuesday. Parise’s initial shot was blocked by Miller as Parise slid on the ice. He found the rebound and took a second shot from his knees, also turned aside by Miller. Parise then popped back up and made the third time the charm, finally denting the twine from a difficult angle past Miller and Canucks defenseman.
PLAY #3 Dumba On-A-Stick (Dec. 17, 2015 vs. NYR) Matt Dumba channeled his inner baseball player and swatted home a rebound off Henrik Lundqvist, following a Nino Niederreiter shot, to score the power-play goal and put the Wild up 2-0 early in the second period. It was Dumba’s fifth goal of the season.
