Center Mikko Koivu continued his stellar defensive play over the weekend, helping Finland to a pair of wins over the Czech Republic and Canada. Sunday’s 2-0 shutout of Canada was the third posted by Team Finland on the tournament. Koivu had two shots on goal in each win.
Defenseman Filip Kuba put a total of six shots on goal in two games over the weekend. He was a -1 in a 4-2 loss to Finland, and even in a 4-1 win over Italy.
Defenseman Daniel Tjarnqvist was held to two shots and no points in Sweden’s pair of weekend victories over Latvia and the United States. Tjarnqvist was a +1 in the 6-1 victory over Latvia on Saturday, and -1 in the 2-1 triumph over the United States on Sunday.
Left wing Brian Rolston scored Team USA’s only goal against Slovakia in a 2-1 loss on Saturday with a slap shot tally. He led Team USA with five shots in that game. Rolston was held without a point in Sunday’s 2-1 defeat at the hands of Sweden. He finished the game with a -1 rating and three shots on goal.
