On the first day of the Minnesota Wild’s informal captain’s practice, 21 players were on the ice at Braemar Arena.
Goaltenders Niklas Backstrom and Josh Harding were in net and are both primed to start the season healthy. Forwards on the ice included: Mikko Koivu, Thomas Vanek, Matt Cooke, Jason Pominville, Charlie Coyle, Justin Fontaine, Kyle Brodziak, Erik Haula, Stephane Veilleux, Cody Almond, Jason Zucker, Jordan Schroeder, Kurtis Gabriel and Tyler Graovac. Manning the blue line: Ryan Suter, Jared Spurgeon, Stu Bickel, Keith Ballard and Christian Folin.
Graovac, Gabriel and Folin are all gearing up for the Traverse City Prospects Tournament, which begins on Friday. The trio, along with Schroeder, Zucker and Bickel are looking to compete for roster spots in the club’s lineup when Wild Training Camp, presented by Andersen Windows, opens on Sept. 18.
Players will continue to trickle in before the start of camp. Zach Parise was in New York today, as a part of the National Hockey League’s media day. Check out @mnwildPR’s Twitter feed, as they are following the winger on his tour today.
Below is a video of Parise winding up for a slap shot, sans puck. If that was on the ice, our guess is that it would’ve been top corner, bar down. Looks like the team’s assistant captain is in mid-season form.
Watch out! Parise taking a slapshot at the NHL Media Tour. from Minnesota Wild on Vimeo.
