Arguably the two most important time periods for an NHL team to get hot is right out of the gate, and down the homestretch of the season. If that is the case for the Minnesota Wild in 2006-2007, consider an advantage for the home team.

The Wild has never had a losing record at home, and that confidence on the home rink should come in handy when the club opens the 2006 season with five consecutive home games, beginning with the Colorado Avalanche on October 5. To finish the year, the Wild will play eight of its last nine games at the Xcel Energy Center, including the regular season finale against St. Louis on April 7.

The Wild will face the five teams in the Southeast division for the first time since 2003-04, and Wild fans will get an early up-close look at last year’s Rookie of the Year, Alexander Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals on Thursday, October 12. The Carolina Hurricanes, the 2006 Stanley Cup champions, will come to Xcel Energy Center on Saturday, February 10.

Once again, the Wild will face each team in its division a total of eight times - four times at home, and four on the road. Thanks to the absence of an Olympic break, there will be fewer back-to-back games (12 this season, 15 last season), and fewer back-to-back games in the same road city. The Wild won’t play two games in three days at any one road city this season as they did twice last year. Calgary and Edmonton will each play two games in three days in late March and early April respectively.

Minnesota will not face the Atlantic division (New Jersey, New York Islanders, New York Rangers, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh) this year.

The Wild’s home schedule will feature 19 weekend games (five on Friday, 11 on Saturday, three on Sunday).
